Billy King Big Mistake
Billy made a big mistake in trade out 30th pick last year. which was the kid from Finland, P. Kopnean (terrible speller). I watch him play last night in the summer league and NBA Tv andhe looked great. Fearless, good handle can pass the ball and shoot. Big mistake in trading him, he could have been our point guard of the future. Maybe with some many young guys in Portland we could get luck and trade for him again. Portland already has Blake, Bayless, Fernandez and Roy to handle the ball so there is no room for him...Thoughts....

Re: Billy King Big Mistake
I wouldn't classify it as a "big" mistake. The guy can certainly play but the Sixers received $3 million and a draft pick that didn't pan out for that pick. We can never know the importance to the Sixers of $3 million cash in addition to being relieved of the guaranteed contract of a 1st round pick. You have to remember that the Sixers have been preparing for a while for this free agency period. We needed every nickle for Brand didn't we ? Peteri would have just been taking up cap space had we signed him last season. If we didn't sign him till after Brand signed then he still wouldn't receive much playing time behind Lou Wiliams, and Miller. With Willie Green now being the SG coming off of the bench that will limit the minutes of Lou Williams at SG.
Peteri looks like he could have a future but not a very bright one. He could be a starter one day but he doesn't assault the rim like the really good PG's. He has a 3 point shot, he has the passing skills of a quality PG, and he made a couple incredible floaters from just below the foul line, but he plays a really non physical style of basketball. He has shown that he has life, but he has not proven that Sixer fans should be crying over spilled milk, not yet...

Why do Sixer fans always fall in love with some worthless scrub that either doesn't make the team or is the last guy on the bench? So sick of all the love for the Herb Hills and Efthmios Rentzias's of the world

If we have him on the roster this year we might not have enough cap room to sign Elton Brand. Quit Yer Belly Achin.

It was a pathetic mistake & a waste of a pick. The kid looks like starting material to me. Also, Portland didn't sign him to a contract, so he is not on their cap. BK should have done his homework & sent him overseas last year. The team took the money ($3 million) & then drafted Derrick Byars while hoping he'd play overseas. We all know how that worked out. Portland will apparently have to sign him now since he's threatening to sign a 4/5 year deal with a higher level European team if they want him to go overseas again. He'd be a perfect fit as a PG of the future for the Sixers.

We didn't actually select him. Even though that is how it is officially listed. Portland had already obtained the pick and told us to select him. That is how it works.
Had we kept the pick I am guessing it wouldn't have been Koppenen they probably would have used it on Byars or Hill or whichever player Dileo had at the top of his draft chart at the time.

I would like to know whether or not the Sixers actually selected then sold his rights, or sold the rights to the pick then selected him. I don't agree with the few people in here that we will regret it, but he has shown signs of life.

I'm not exactly sure but I would imagine that if we wanted the option to bring him over this year there would have been some sort of cap hold that we would have had to have renounced.

He and Fesenko were mistakes, but as was mentioned, he may have precluded signing Brand. If they were both on the roster, and you had Brand...nice scenario.
I did watch him a bit last night, and he does look pretty good.

You can't officially make a trade during the first round. When you do agree to a trade, you say to the other team "who do you want us to take for you with the pick?" They tell us and we select the player for them. During the 2nd round, the trade is announced.
The Sixers knew beforehand that they didn't want 3 guaranteed salaries out of the first round, so traded the pick, which they usually reveal during their draft night press conference.

Re: Billy King Big Mistake
let's give king a little bit of credit here.
outside of brand + speights = everybody else in philly is b/c of king. philly has the pieces to overtake detroit this year and become #2 in the east.
