The Greatest Spur ever: Offense only

Post#1 » by ronnymac2 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 3:19 am

Who is the greatest Spur ever on the offensive end? Don't count Dominique Wilkins, Moses Malone, or Artis Gilmore, because they weren't in their prime in their time with the Spurs. So basically this is between the Iceman, the Admiral, and the Big Fundamental. If you would like to argue Manu, Tony Parker, or somebody else go ahead. Will Purdue comes to mind, too, but that's just me.

Scoring wise you mean?

Gotta be Gervin then. He was certainly the most prolific.

Nah, I meant overall offense. Include scoring, free throw shooting, foul drawing, efficiency, versatility, passing, drawing defenses, offensive rebounding, and finishing.

Gervin certainly was the most prolific pure scorer of any Spur, in terms of his extremely high volume with very good efficiency.

Gervin was not called "Mr. Moves" for nothing. He could flat out score, and still be efficient.

Maybe more interesting is the all-time greatest offensive spurs team (including everything)

C DRobinson Gilmore (even in decline)
PF Duncan ?
SF ? ? (Kenon, Mitchell, Elliot)
SG Gervin Ginobili
PG ?? (Silas, Parker, Alvin Robertson, Johnny Moore)

In most instances I'd take a very good post player's offense over a perimeter swingmans just due to the efficiency factor, but considering Gervin was MORE efficient than Duncan and comparable to D-Rob while scoring at a much higher volume, you gotta go with Gervin.

Walter Berry, who believed basketball was played only on one side of the court. He literally only played offense.

D-Wade's game kinda resembles Gervin's. What D-Wade can do Gervin did it better. Acrobatic shots, midrange jumpers, shots off the glass, you name it.
