Re: Favre Speaks
If TT did say Favre could be the back-up I don't see why he wouldn't take it...other than pride or the fact he just wants out of GB. Worst case is he gets 12.5 million for 6 months to hold a clip board. If that is insulting to Favre he needs to get over himself. There is no shame in getting old and stepping aside for the young guy. In sports we all have to go threw that at some point. Nobody is going to think less of him if he finished his career coming off the bench. In fact, I think people would think more of him. I just don't see a downside for Favre.
However, I do see a huge upside. Favre could end up winning the job in camp and wouldn't that add to the Favre legend. The old guy comes to camp and beats out that young punk. It's like a Disney movie. There is also the chance AR bombs or gets hurt during the season. Now Favre gets to be the hero. He comes in off the bench and saves the day. It's just like another Disney movie. This move also allows Favre to take the high road. He could be a big help to AR and the other QB's on the team. This would make him even more valuable to the team than just being a backup QB. Remember...don't ask what your team can do for you...ask what you can do for your team.
Now I'm not an idiot and realize this might be hard for Favre to swallow but he needs to wake up to reality. He can make his 12.5 million with no downside or risk being traded to a bad team and have to start all over. He isn't being given to the Vikings.
I also think TT, MM and the Packers come out of this looking great as long as Favre takes the high road. He could come out and say he's sorry he's been waffling and is grateful to still be able to play for the Packers. He also needs to stress the AR is the future and needs to be given a fair shake. He needs to give the Favre cult orders that he expects them to support AR and give him every opportunity to succeed. My guess is he's need to give a reminder talk a few times. If Favre gave this speech he'd come across as the great team player in the history of the game. People would start crying as the old gunslinger comes to grips with his mortality and love him for it as say "see, Favre isn't selfish and is all about winning and the team". Fans just love an athlete that apologizes and swallows their pride. We just eat it up.
I think this outcome solves all the problems. Favre gets his money and is still a hero and even has a chance to still be the starting QB. The Packers look great as they took Favre back and gave him an opportunity to keep playing. AR will still feel some heat but it gives him a chance to be the man and with Favre telling the fans to cut him some slack it should help reduce the pressure. I know it’s a dream but I see this as a win/win for everyone.

Re: Favre Speaks
After reading the genius Bus Cook today, I predict the only time we will see Favre is if A Rodg. gets hurt, he will then want the Packers to beg him to come back, which they won't. This makes alot of sense since Favre does not want to do the work it takes, just wants to play on Sundays. If Rodgers does well and another team has a big need for a QB, a contending team...Favre will send in the paperwork so the Packers must make a move......Cook said the ball is in the Packers court, if thats the case nothing changes.

Ummm, you are forgetting one massive downside issue, McCarthy wants to run a training camp, not a media circus. That's the reason you won't see Brett anywhere near training camp once it starts.
The Packers have given the job to Rodgers and need his mind on the task at hand of being the starting QB, not answering one question after another about how his competition with Favre is going. McCarthy doesn't want his receivers after each practice having to answer questions about which QB is looking better. McCarthy isn't going to want players on his team split on the side of each QB. Have both Rodgers and Favre in camp, the amount of local and national media hanging around and picking apart every good or bad practice by each QB would be insane. Coaches despise distractions and after what's gone on so far with Brett, a Rodgers/Favre competition in camp would be the distraction of all distractions. Bridges have been burned beyond repair and Rodgers is the QB, both TT and McCarthy don't want Favre anywhere near Packers training camp with good reason.
A trade is the only realistic option left that i can see. That can only happen though if both sides stop sniping at each other and instead work together to get a trade done that both sides can live with.

Re: Favre Speaks
I get what you're are saying Dude but then why was it reported TT said Favre could come back as a back up?
As far as the media, I wish a team would take a stand on this. If Favre came back I wish TT could just come out and say we aren't taking any questions on the Favre/AR situation. If you ask a question you are on out band list. It makes me sad that team has to make plans based on how the media will react or the chance the media could destroy the team. Just tell the media to stick it and leave us the he11 alone. A dream I know but someone has to stand up to the media as they shouldn't be able to dictate who plays QB for the Packers.

Good ol' Fox News. They have come to their hatchet-wielding senses and now will broadcast PART 3 of the epic Favre Van Susteren trilogy, tonight at 9. http://blogs.jsonline.com/packers/archi ... favre.aspx
As epic trilogies go I am ranking Favre Van Susteren ahead of the Matrix and Star Wars Redux, but not quite equal to the Lord of the Rings or the original Star Wars trilogy. If they can somehow manage a Favre/Rodgers lightsaber duel in hot lava I'd be willing to reconsider, however, or maybe have McCarthy and Thompson fight with Bus Cook inside Mount Doom and then throw Favre into the lava. Either way there's gotta be lava.

Did Favre plan this all along...
From last April:
On Thursday night, he told Letterman that as the start of training camp approaches in July, "Something's bound to happen."
Asked by Letterman what he meant, Favre smiled before adding, "Butterflies, or I don't know. I don't know. Something's bound to happen."

What the hell does Favre/Cook mean by this latest...
"We have no definite plans to ask for reinstatement," Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, said of the former Packers quarterback,
It's their move."
No Bus he needs to ask for reinstatement from the NFL. It's your move.

Based on Part 3 of Favre's interview I'd characterize Cook's grand strategy as a scorched earth attack on TT, trying to turn public opinion against TT so strongly that TT either gets forced out of his job or is forced to release Favre outright to avoid further carnage. I also think that Cook has seriously underestimated TT's will (e.g. the tampering charges filed against the Vikes) and misjudged how badly Favre will look in this public cat fight. Eventually Favre will either have to accept a trade or stay retired.

Has Favre struck ANY of you as somebody who is fired up about playing football again? "Getting an itch" and having a fiery passion (as he has had in the past) are not the same thing. It's just really sad to see Favre in this obviously indecisive, constantly second-guessing himself phase of his life.

On a happier note (happier if you can handle more Favre 24/7 questions), check out A-Rod and Hawk stylin' on the red carpet at the ESPYs.

I completely agree. In fact, part 3 made Brett look even worse to me because it seemed like he thought he was above TT. If TT doesn't want to re-sign Wahle or Rivera, or interview Mariucci (who would've been a HORRIBLE hire), or bring in Moss (ok, that's kind of defenseless, but whatevs), it's his call. All you need to do it shut up and play ball.

Arod said all the right things. Hawk was funny. Leinart is an idiot.

This has been the case since the minute Ted and McCarthy told Brett they've moved on. All that's left IMO if Brett wants to play are a few questions
1. Is Brett 100 percent committed to playing again and truly willing to go to a new team and all that goes along with it. At his age, going to a new city, learning a new offense, being around completely unfamiliar players and possibly coaches, and family issues of playing somewhere new. This could be harder to adjust to than he envisions for a self professed loner type who likely won't be making friends in a locker room full of mostly young guys and older vets he doesn't know.
2. How much legit interest will there be for Brett in the NFL outside of the NFC North teams?
3. What interested teams outside of the NFC North would Brett accept a trade to?
4. Would Thompson be ok with trading Brett to a NFC team not in our division like say Tampa if that's Favre's first choice and they are interested? I personally would be fine with that if i was Ted just to get this situation over with ASAP, but i obviously can't read Thompson's mind.
5. If Thompson can find a team that both he and Brett are both ok with a trade to, will Ted try and drive for quite a bit in return which could either stall or kill a trade, or will he take less than he'd like just to get this over with, especially with camp a few weeks away?
If i'm Thompson, i want this without question resolved before training camp starts. Camp will already be a bigger media circus than usual even if Favre was traded, but if the issue is still in limbo by then, it'll be a massive distraction. If Brett finally drops his stupid release me stance very soon and works with the Packers on getting traded to team that both sides can accept, i'd do everything possible if i was TT to get a trade done as quick as possible. Say take a 3rd or 4th rounder than can become a 2nd rounder if that team makes the playoffs and be done with it.

Re: Favre Speaks
Anyone worried that we could trade Favre to a team that flips him to Minnesota for higher compensation? That would be disastrous.

I wonder if the Packers accusing Minnesota of tampering with Favre just lessened the chances of that happening. I'm not sure another team would want to step into the middle of an ongoing NFL tampering investigation.

That's absolutely not true. There's nothing that would make the Vikings happier than to take Favre for a couple seasons and trot him out against Green Bay.
It's like making out with your biggest enemies ex-girlfriend right in front of him.
Vikings are going to get punished for this. Reports are Favre and Childress spoke. This is getting really ugly, and Favre is really tarnishing his reputation. Does he realize speaking to the Vikings hurts the fans more than the management? This kills me, and I LOVE FAVRE!

Just curious, who did you hear this report from?
