Report: McGrady Interested In Pistons

The Pistons claim that they aren't interested in dealing for Tracy McGrady, but the All-Star forward wouldn't mind joining the team, according to The Detroit Free Press.

"Is Tracy McGrady interested? Yes he is. I spoke to Tracy McGrady earlier. His basic thing is he's very happy in Houston but he wants to win. So whatever is a winning situation for him is something he is more than willing to entertain," ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said on Tuesday.

A team source told The Free Press earlier this week that the Pistons are not "remotely" close to a deal with the Rockets for McGrady.

This better not to amount to anything. The Pistons put up a good fight against the eventual NBA Champs. This != failure or time to blow up the team. They have a bunch of promising young guys (Affalo, Stuckey, Maxiel). They should give it one more try this year before going after some injury prone 1st round exit specialist.

Wow, Pistons not interested in McGrady, but McGrady in them. I'm interested in working for a fortune 500 company, will that come true anytime soon? Not sure, but I'm interested.

Very happy in Houston and wants to win= Interestd in Piston? Way to go Screaming A Smith. I hope ESPN gives this guy a janitor job next year at the draft.

Well, i guess it's about that time again, where McGrady quits on his team in the hopes of going somewhere else to win, only to lose in the first round again, and again, and again, and again.......................and again.

Rockets GM dismisses trade talk involving McGrady 07/16/2008 By CHRIS DUNCAN / Associated Press Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said Wednesday that Tracy McGrady is happy in Houston and was surprised at how reports characterized his interest in being traded to Detroit. Morey spoke a day after an ESPN reporter said McGrady had told him he would be interested in playing for the Pistons. Last week, a Canadian-based media outlet reported without citing sources that Detroit was making a run at the seven-time All-Star. Morey said he talked to McGrady on Wednesday morning. "He said he wanted to win and they (the media) ran with it," Morey said. "He said he's happy in Houston. He just was surprised how it all came out." McGrady's agent, Arn Tellem, did not immediately return a phone message. Morey said he had one conversation with the Pistons "a few weeks ago." He said he turned down preliminary offers, but wouldn't specify whether any of them involved McGrady. "I don't want to say what was related," Morey said. "Whatever they offered, we said no to." McGrady has two years left on his contract at more than $21 million next season and $23.2 million in 2009-10. The 29-year-old McGrady averaged 21.6 points, 5.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game last season, helping Houston to a 55-27 record that included a 22-game winning streak. The Rockets lost to Utah in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year. McGrady is 0-7 in playoff series in his career.

FWIW, Marc Stein wrote that his sources with both teams said there was NOTHING to the T-Mac/Detroit speculation.

I don't see how T-Mac saying he will entertain a winning situation being equal to he wants to play in Detroit. Seems to me that he is just addressing the trade rumor with a "as long as its a good situation I am fine with it because I can't control being traded".

I think the Rockets are going to give the combo one more shot. To their credit they have been good when they are healthy. And they can play together just fine. But health is part of the situation and both aren't durable. When healthy you see the Rockets one weakness which is of course the reliance on just those 2 guys as nobody else on the roster can create a shot for themselves. Those two aren't great enough to be in that situation. They need 1 more player and health and I think you have a legit Championship contender.

Stephen A should get sued for **** that he rambles on about.
