I'm not sure getting Artest is a good move for our team.
I know he brings toughness and defense, but he is also a headcase and a possible headache.

That said, if we decide to get him, getting KT's contract should not be the deal breaker. He can contribute Ronny type numbers on the boards and he is a veteran.
Worst case scenario, the can always buy him out, can't they?

I do not see Mata as a good option for the Lakers, his money days will be over seas. But I can be wrong. I loved him at UCLA, just not sure he has enough to be a player who sits on the bench and comes in at any time to do anything worth what any team will pay him.

(Boston Herald) Artest to Mavs deal appears to be dead:
Because the Mavericks won’t budge on Howard, a potential trade for Artest is all but dead, the source said. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban declined comment in an e-mail to The Dallas Morning News.

The Sacramento Bee's Scott Howard-Cooper suggests an Odom for Artest, Shelden Williams, and Quincy Douby. It's a better trade than Odom for Artest and Thomas, that's for sure. Williams could slot in at Turiaf's spot and Douby, while definitely not a traditional PG, might work better as a tri PG with his shooting and defense.

Why would the Kings give up all that for one year of Odom? Shelden Williams isn't going to be a bad player, especially as a defender and rebounder.

Also, what the heck credibility does this guy have with this excerpt. It's just like somebody on this forum putting a deal out there, pure speculation. Which that trade is only better for the Lakers.

Just let Artest walk, regardless.

I agree Ballings7, that trade is way too steep for the Kings by including Williams and Douby. The whole point of even making the trade from the Kings stand point would be to acquire cap space and get rid of a dead weight contract in Thomas. The original purposed deal is better for the Lakers because it covers a gap for us in at the PF spot.

But Scott Howard Cooper is a good writer Ballings7, he use to be a Laker beat writer for the LA Times in the 80's, he probably still bleed a little P&G !
