Posey's defense.

Kapono is an excellent shooter who spreads the floor very well. He can shoot from anywhere. He shoots well from 3 and from midrange. He works to get open and is good in the open floor.

Posey might be the most versatile defensive player in the league. He guards 2's, 3's, some 4's, some 1's. Basically, he can effectively guard lebron, kobe, dirk, joe johnson, dwade, vince carter, richard jefferson, etc. (effectively meaning as well as anybody else can and doing a good job, obviously not shutting down). He gives your team a lot of flexibility. He hustles, is a very good team defender, and is long and athletic. He cuts off passing lanes and driving lanes and he takes a lot of charges. He's a pretty good defensive rebounder and ball thief. He also plays physical and gives your team some toughness.

Posey's defense over Kapono's offense.

As a Heat fan who's seen both of them, Posey's a much better player. He's a decent man defender and a fantastic help defender. He can't really guard SGs though except for the biggest ones, so I'd take Vince Carter, DWade, and Kobe off of that list. He does much better against PFs than SGs. He's too slow to really guard them, but he definitely tries. Posey's just a much more desirable player.

This is Posey in a no-brainer. Much better player. He's a decent offensive player, the ultimate glue guy, and a physical presence on defense. He's a utility guy who just loves doing the dirty work. Neither the Heat nor the Celtics win their rings without Big Game James...

This isn't a legit comparison; Kapono's a much better shooter but Posey's a very good spot-up shooter AND a really good, multi-position defender and that makes him much more valuable.

Easily Posey. While Kapono is a better shooter, James is no slouch in that department, and he does everything else better.

FWIW, Kapono is basically a 6'7, better-shooting version of Kerr (who's best seasons came with the line pulled in, while Kapono has actually shot 50%+ from the real NBA 3pt line). He's the iconic specialist, with one marketable skill and pretty much nothing else.

Posey is multidimensional; he can be used in undersized lineups as a 4 (and if you're not afraid of some weird results, at the 2 as the Hornets seem intent on doing), he can hit the 3 at a very respectable clip, he runs well in transition and he's also a multipositional defender.

I'll even take Poseys offense over Kaponos offense....Kapono is a standup shooter, he cant creat a shot for himself. He didnt do much for the Raps last year

The only area where Jason wins is shooting.

You have to take Posey, one of the better perimeter defenders in the league and is a lights out shooter himself though Kapono has the decided advantage in that department.

Except in the playoffs... and whenever we gave him shots. Don't exaggerate, Kapono was valuable, he was just a specialist. They have their place and his was a properly contributing shooter's role on our squad.

Kapono's offence could be really really valuable for some teams.

Posey..The best thing about him is everything he does..from 3pt shooting, to defending, timely steals and rebounds.

But Posey is a little overrated on defense now.... hes great at taking charges, rotating and guarding 1-3.. but he gets beat off the dribble often if you pay attention..

James Posey, but it'll be interesting to see Kapono get more looks now that JO and Bosh will draw a lot of double teams inside.

Regarding that last point, it is worth noting that MOST defenders, even the good ones, are pretty much a guaranteed beat if they're manning up on a good NBA scorer. As David Thorpe says, good NBA scorers are basically guaranteed to get past the first defender. Posey's clearly found himself a niche as a help defender and a hustle guy who'll harass you as much as possible before the beat so that his help D has time to get into position.
