you haven't even shown how it would even work financially.
Considering what has recently happened with Denver I am not quite sure they will keep all of the guys that they currently have nor I am convinced that they will try to win it all in the near future.
With that in mind here is a proposition to get
Melo and AI to the Bulls.
I know most may be against the idea but here me out.
As you can see I really want Melo and AI on the Bulls and would literally give up anything for them.
The Nuggets trade
Melo and Iverson along with Atkins to the Bulls for
Rose, Gordon, Deng and Hughes it gives Denver a better future in the loaded west and it gives Chicago a francise player in Melo.
Lineup would look like this:
BullsPG Hinrich/Atkins
SG Iverson/Thabo
SF Melo/Nocioni/Nichols
PF Gooden/Tyrus/Simmons
C Noah/Gray
NuggetsPG Rose/Carter
SG Gordon/Smith
SF Deng/Diawara
PF Kmart/Kleiza
C Nene/Hunter
What does this mean?
Well if we consider that the salary cap is at around $59 million this year and $71 is around the luxury tax it would mean that the Bulls current team would have the following funds to pay for this season.
Code: Select all
Player [B]2008/2009 2009/2010 2010/2011 2011/2012 2012/2013 2013/2014
Kirk Hinrich $10,250,000 $9,750,000 $9,250,000 $8,250,000 N/A N/A
Andres Nocioni $8,000,000 $7,500,000 $6,850,000 $6,650,000 $7,500,000 N/A
Drew Gooden $7,151,183 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
Tyrus Thomas $3,749,880 $4,743,598 $6,256,806 N/A N/A N/A
Joakim Noah $2,295,480 $2,445,680 $3,128,536 $4,239,167 N/A N/A
Thabo Sefolosha $1,931,160 $2,759,628 $3,816,565 N/A N/A N/A
Cedric Simmons $1,742,760 $2,671,651 $3,742,277 N/A N/A N/A
Demetris Nichols $886,517 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
Aaron Gray $711,517 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
Carmelo Anthony $14,410,581 $15,779,912 $17,149,243 $18,518,574 N/A N/A
Allen Iverson $20,840,625 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
Chucky Atkins $3,240,000 $3,480,000 N/A N/A N/A N/A
Total Salary $75,209,703 $49,130,469
Now Chicago could do a few things here. We could just let Iverson walk after next season and wait for the 2010 free agent class or we could resign him, guess it depends on how we would do with that roster above. The only problem is that we would be in luxury tax situation, however we could just trade Simmons and Nichols to keep us under the luxury tax.
I think the big thing with Reinsdorf and Paxson is that they don't pay the luxury tax not that we can't go over the salary cap.
Remember in 2010 which is the year of the free agents it seems our Salary as it stands with the players we have is around $49 million, which means we could still have a good $20 million to sign a key player like Amare or Wade or Dirk to pair with Melo.
The possibilites are limitless with this deal if we were to pursue it now.
