Celtics offered a trade for Artest

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Thu Jul 17, 2008 1:30 am

according to HoopsWorld

http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9502

The Boston Celtics offered up a James Posey sign-and-trade to land Artest, but obviously that's not going to happen. As HOOPSWORLD's Jessica Camerato broke earlier today, Posey is now a New Orleans Hornet.

The most Posey will get is the MLE. Why would the Kings need to sign and trade Artest for Posey? The Kings are rebuilding and saving cap space for 2010 to pick up a big name free agent. They are not contending anytime soon. What would they do with a 31 year old Posey?

I would love to see artest on this team. I really think he won't be a distraction with veteran presence. I mean, in SAC he was fine wasn't he? No turmoil there, right?

I just don't think we have the most attractive package. The only thing going for us is that we are in the east, and SAC might not want to trade him to LA.

artest is crazy as **** but he is equally and competitive and might be too into winning to act out too much.

i think its a long shot, but can you imagine the defenseive intensity with artest on the floor with KG

I have been saying this, after I saw artest on Best damn, and his interview with kobe. He idolizes him. You put artest with a veteran, no not SJAX, or JO, or even Mike Bibby. But a player like Kobe or KG, I just get the feeling that he would go off. And play way better then he has played before.

I think it is a longshot too. If only he opted out

That would be interesting I’ll admit, also it would tick off the Lakers.

Cmon Maloofs, give us Artest. Remember 2002? Screw LA. What better way to get back at the Fakers than to trade Artest to Boston.

I dont think Artest likes KG, i remember on a interview on th BDSS Salley asked him who he thought was overrated in the nba.He didn't really answer it but then he said he didn't like that KG only talks smack to the other teams when his team is up and doesn't say anything when his team is down. He said something like, if you win like a big dog you should lose like a big dog and not like a puppy.

Scalabrine + TA-at-3-million-a-year would make the cap numbers work for an Artest trade. We could throw in Glen Davis or Leon Powe.

The Kings are in a situation where they may not want to trade Artest, but realize that they probably need to trade him. Fortunately, for the Kings, Artest has a reasonable salary for next season. However, the caveat is that Sacramento will insist on including Thomas' contract. Considering that Abdur-Rahim is leaning toward retiring. The Kings will definitely require a team to take on Thomas' salary too. Where would Thomas fit in the Celtics rotation? Supposedly, he can play both forward positions. But, I'd always thought of him as an undersized power forward like Powe. Still, the Celtics could convince Artest to sign an extension with Boston being close to his home state, New York. I reckon it'll depend on his asking price and whether or not the Celtics can afford him. We already know that Artest desires to make more than the MLE and still desires to play for the Knicks. But, the Knicks are probably too occupied as some other teams about signing LeBron when he hits free agency. New York likely won't want to sign Artest for a large salary at small forward with leBron playing the same position.

A lot is being said about Artest not so much the player but Artest and his personality. Rivers has a way of getting players to like him to an extent and it was reported that all the Celtic players liked him. Even Pierce came around... The point is, Jackson might not be the only head coach who can get through to Artest. Yes, Artest wants to be paid a lot but he also sounds like a player that wants to be a part of a winning environment. The Celtics could provide him that. He'll know from day one that Pierce, Garnett, Ainge, ownership and everyone else gives a damn about winning a championship. This will appeal to him, I would think. And we know that Boston was interested in Artest before.

In my opinion, it'll come down to whether Sacramento would've an interest in trading Artest to Boston and what could Boston offer in return to appease the Kings. Miami is said to have an interest... So, the Kings obviously aren't oppose to trading him to the eastern conference. But, how do you beat an offer of Marion? Unfortunately, the Celtics don't have enough to offer them in salaries, anyways. And then you're talking about taking on Thomas as well. There's no way it could work financially for Boston even if you omit Thomas. Damn. Artest would be a tremendous upgrade over Posey and you lose nothing defensively. Heck, you actually gain a lot from him offensively. Because I believe Artest could accept a sixth man role if he were to get his extension and knew the team was committed to winning.

Artest said some pretty mean things about KG during the Finals...can't imagine KG would want him on the team, especially since he's a champion and Artest is a loser.

What did Artest say about KG during the Finals? I missed it and would like to know because I think adding Artest to this team would be awesome. Artest, around veterans who know how to play and have a single focus of winning a championship, could be impressive. However, if he came to Boston he'd have to be ok with coming off the bench, something he probably wouldn't be too interested in. But if he were willing to accept that 6th man role that Posey played, talk about going from a tough situation in losing a guy like Posey, to actually upgrading (at least talent-wise) at that spot.

Good post, but your forgetting one thing, Artest wants to play for the Lakers....Period.
He has a very good relationship with Kobe and he will not play for any other team, he has publicaly came out and told everyone where he wants to play and the Kings are interested in the trade that will send Artest to LA for L.O but the only issue is K.T has to be involved in that trade, and thats where the problem exsists. K.T 9mil+ contract.

Yes, but Garnett is a grown man. He's fully capable of putting his differences aside and embracing what Artest can add to your team in way of helping you achieve the ultimate goal: Winning a NBA championship. I'm not trying to ignore or lose sight of the disparaging comments Artest said out loud about Garnett. Hell, S. O'Neal didn't have "nice" comments to say about Garnett this season either. But, do you say: No, I don't want a Shaq or an Artest as a teammate? No, it isn't your decision necessarily. You've to put your team first and as long as Artest doesn't destroy what the Celtics have worked hard to build this season. I would trade for Artest if it were feasible. It isn't... Though. Again, I don't see it as a big deal, personally. Cassell gave Rondo a hard foul as a Clipper and Rondo was find about it afterwards and didn't hold a grudge once Cassell became his teammate. It's becomes water under the bridge for a lot of these players. I still don't believe Pierce is fond of Artest, but he'd came out in said he would be find with an Artest addition to the team a year or two ago. So, I believe him. But, how can one forget when Artest blatantly pulled down Pierce's jersey bottoms in a game at that. Or when Artest sung an apology in song off the cuff to him while in the audience and Pierce was a guest on the Best Damn Sports Show Period. Artest is a character... But, I can appreciate what he brings to the table defensively. I really like to watch team defense and defensive minded players.

What? Why you do think they are trying to trade him now. Ron is crazy, if you have to deal with crazy people in your life you know the one thing you can count on from crazy people is that they will act **** crazy.

The dude just decided not to opt out of his contract and the next day starts crying about it in the papers and hasn't stopped. Not only that he is representing himself.

Ron is that beautiful girl with the body that won't quit that is going to get you dead or in jail, or both. Need to just let her go.

Actually I belive it was his agent who gave him bad advice. Or something along the lines of he thought he was getting a deal from sac. I don't know, I remember something was up. It wasn't like he just lost track of time. "Oh **** 12:01, and I didn't get the papers in. ****"

I don't know, I got back and forth on artest. I remember not wanting him when he was rumored here from indy. Remember that 80 page thread about him coming here. some insider said it was close. Anyway it doesn't matter he will go for more then what we have to offer.

What I am saying is yes Ron is a great player but Ron is also bringing turmoil, it follows him where ever he goes. Could it work for one season, maybe? But you can't sit back and just think everything is going to be fine with this guy and there is nothing to worry about, it is going to end badly soon enough. Ron's **** is so deep that people don't even think the crap he pulls is that big of a deal anymore.
