Re: Camby to Clippers
I can see why they would dump Camby, seeing as how they have a talented team with a big payroll that always get knock out the 1st round. That still isn't a good reason to trade him up for only a second round pick. I think other teams out there would love to have a big man like Camby that can give the Nuggets something solid in return. A couple of teams that come to mind is Detroit, Washington, and Dallas. I think the Nuggets had the idea in mind to dump salaries but they should have thought this one out through more.

Re: Camby to Clippers
i agree that one second round is horrible. I think Nuggets didn't want any contract in return (including guaranteed contract for future first round pick) and that's why they trade for second round picks. I don't think this wayof thinking is the right one but even if I can accept this man they should want numerous second round picks (even force Clippers to trade for extra ones from other teams). I won't be surprised if they trade this seond round pick for cash considerations next year.

Re: Camby to Clippers
Denver didn't get a 2nd round pick ... they got the rights to swap 2nd round picks with the Clips next year & a huge trade exception. It's the latter that's the real pize. Now they have a ton of flexiblity to make more trades. I don't think that you can judge the Camby "trade" by itself. You have to see what they do with the exception. If they use it well then this was a great deal. If they just let it expire then not so much.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Re: Camby to Clippers
...what's the "right way" to think here? They're not trying to help the team with this decision; the owner is paying too much money, he doesn't want to anymore, so they effectively cut Camby. In football this happens all the time, but since contracts are guaranteed in the NBA they can't cut, so this is the rare chance a team like Denver has to get some money off their payroll.
They could never have gotten any more, because there were no other teams with the cap space to absorb Camby's contract.
Vanderbilt: This is not a contending team with Camby. They'll block a lot of shots and rebound well, but their only source of offense is Baron Davis and rookies. They're going nowhere in the West with this; at least Josh Smith offers you the chance of getting a real superstar. What free agent is going to put them over the top? Camby sure isn't, so why not go for someone who might?

Re: Camby to Clippers
Neither Smith or Okafor was going to put them "over the top" either. Both of them are good but hardly superstars. Camby is cheaper than they would have been and will give them similar results in the near term. In the longer term the Clips get to save their $$ until they hit a FA class that can make a bigger impact on their team ... perhaps offerering superstar money to someone who merits it.

Clippers with cap room will end the same way it always does... I'm looking at you Kobe and Elton.

Re: Camby to Clippers
baron davis, josh smith and chris kamen are not going anywhere in the west. at best that team is fighting for a 7 or 8 seed. whats the point? once brand left LA they were screwed and even with brand i'm not sure how far they could have gone. that team is a long way away from challenging the top teams in the west.

Probably. They should have realized that the best thing cap space usually gets you is sweetheart deals like getting Camby for a 2nd rounder, or Richardson for a lottery pick, etc.

Re: Camby to Clippers
My argument is that Smith can still get better, which Camby cannot. I also don't really agree with the Clipper fans who think Camby is secretly a power forward.
If your argument is that Smith doesn't make them a contender, why even pay for Camby? Why not save the money entirely and just go lose and hope for the best in the lottery?

To deal Camby and get nothing but picks in returm (obviously for financial reasons) they would have to deal with teams under the cap who don't have to trade salaries in return. That left us with LA and Memphis. That being said, no way would memphis trade for an aged Camby so we were at the mercy of LA and didnt have much leverage. good move for Denver IMO for the TE and flexibility.
and no camby is not a PF just cus he likes playing around the perimeter which drove us all insane.

Re: Camby to Clippers
All Bobcats' fans should understand Denver's POV from our big trade last year...Paydro is exactly right. He's also right in that they should have made Smith their top priority, but as the Clips's fan said no doubt ATL would match.
Sucks for them...went from Brand/Maggette to Davis/Camby. Their fans can't be too pleased.
Good for us tho.
