Rumors of us trading for a PG?

Post#1 » by Calinks » Thu Jul 17, 2008 6:46 pm

I heard that on the radio PA said we are in the middle of finalizing a deal to trade for a PG. Any ideas of what the deal is and who we will be getting back?

I don't know if they are close to anything. PA just said that they will trade for a PG before the summer is over. Unless i missed that part.

Or a Gomes s&t. The suggested Snow/protected first from the Cavs, although it'd be a mistake for Cleavland to pay him that much.

Heard the same comments and PA was pushing for Hinrich. As I mentioned in another thread, if a deal is made it should be for Felton...

If a deal is made, it should be for a backup. There's no reason to bring in a starting quality PG this year.

It makes no sense to me to trade for a PG unless we know we can't get Telfair back. The "trade" would make the most sense if it was for a PG of Telfair's ability... the only name that comes to mind is Kyle Lowry.

I agree that we should look more at a backup but if the deal for a starter presents itself you evaluate what it's worth. Now if Hinrich could play back at his level before last year you have to definitely be interested, but dependent on what we gave up I still would be.

Let's say you trade McCants, filler like Cardinal and a couple of 1sts. You could still give Foye major minutes between 1 and 2. That might make them even less likely to sign Gomes, but you could still make it work as you're getting rid of a 2 and 3 for a 1 in the deal.

Your roster looks like:

PG: Hinrich, Foye, Vet
SG: Foye, Miller, Carney/Brewer
SF: Miller, Gomes, Carney/Brewer
PF: Al/Love, Gomes, Rhino
C: Collins, Al/Love, Richard, Madsen

Now your cap flexibility is somewhat less for 2010, but not terrible.

Hmm, I smell a S&T. Not sure if it will be Gomes or Cookie Monster. This likely means Telfair is not coming back. I personally am rooting for either Lowry/Critt or a vet like Snow or BJax.

2nd Round pick for Hinrich FTW!

I would love to have Hinrich if it weren't for his contract. He would be a good fit on this team.

S&T for Smith is likely out of the question. He reported this morning to Vegas and practiced with the Wolves. I don't see that happening if a sign and trade is in the works.

Also not saying Chicago would be interested in a deal of McCants, Cardinal, and picks for Hinrich. that was just what looked possible in trade checker.

I think Casey was correct in that it can't be Smith since he's already signed. None of that group really excited me to be honest with you. Lowry and Critt are unproven, could be decent but not a high upside, IMO. Snow is broke down. BJax would probably be the best case short term.

Concerns with Hinrich is the 4 years remaining on his deal...$10m, 9.5m, 9m and 8m. If he plays like 2 years ago it may be worthwhile, otherwise he is a vastly overpaid PG that does nothing extremely well.

I agree with the sentiment that if we trade for a PG it has to be a backup PG. Otherwise we shift Foye over to SG, where he is undersized, and never find out if he can be a legit NBA point. We aren't making the playoffs this year so why not develop these guys and see if we need to be drafting Rubio/Jennings early next year or not.

Btw, I'd love Lowry. I think he's the perfect 15-20 minute backup PG. Will push the ball, attack his man defensively and is still young enough to be cheap and have some upside.

Just an FYI - we can't combine a recently traded player like Cardinal with another player in a trade for two months. We can still trade him now, but he has to be traded alone (though cash or picks could be included)

Guys like Lowry, Jackson, Hinrich are guys that I think would like to be here.

-Lowry would be playing with his college teammate.
-Jackson would be coming back where he played college ball.
-Hinrich was raised in Iowa and was likely a Wolves fan growing up.

I think I like them in that order.

Good point. It looked on trade checker the only players we could trade together are Foye, McCants, Brewer, Jefferson, and Madsen right now.

That said I'd be willing to forgive Hinrich for being a d-bag and selecting Kansas over Iowa if he was a Wolf.

PA does not remember that Hinrich has four more years at a fairly big number.

PA has been living in the suburbs too long. Now he's a homer Wild fan and consistently makes questionable comments about the Wolves. He sounds like he doesn't follow them very closely anymore.

Agreed. What's sad is I think he's at all the games (at least home games) for FSN.
