We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
We have to sign this guy asap before someone else does. He is really the only legit big man out there that we can sign that can help us. I know he has not lived up to the #1 pick but the kid is still only 25yrs old and huge so he could still pan out. We need another big now. Get it done ASG. Someone will sign him if we don't.

i agree!!!!
if the Hawks can resign Smith and get Kwame that will be a "+B", if they can also resign Chil, then that will be a soild "A"

The problem is that the ASG don't have any idea how much they can spend on him without going into the luxury tax. If they can lock in Smith then they can play hardball on Childress if they like and tell him either he can sign for slightly over MLE money or take his QO. At least they would have cost certainty at that point.

Kwame Brown is a cancer. A HORRIBLE person. He is lazy, has no work ethic, tkes no responobilty for his actions. With all the contenders needing a big body amd legitimate 7 footer he is considering the Hawks cause we're desperate and so is he.
Every team he's ever played on has been happy to be rid of him.
Remember the cake incident? Rememebr his being suspended by the team for the playoffs for skipping practices? Him threatening to hit Gil Arenas in a game?
We don't need that drama.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
Signing K Borwn is like revisiting the Isiah Rider fiasco all over again. As much as we hear about our team's lack of vocal leadership. Plus he's from GA which leads to a greater likelihood he'll succumb to the rigors and distractions of playing near home.
The risk is MUCH greater than any likely reward.
If signed, I don't foresee him finishing the year before being waived. You heard it here first.

you are still confusing the situations

Rider was brought in with a big contract and brought in to not only be the leader of the Hawks but also the future face of the Hawks.
Kwame was brought into Washington as the #1 pick and brought in as the future of the Wizards. the Lakers then traded away an all-star for Kwame and gave him a big contract and projected him to be a solid valuable starter, practically a number two for Kobe.
compairing the Rider situation to a free agent signing for the MLE to fill the bench is idiotic

Zaza gotten into it with Woodson and started a fight with a teammate within the last 6 months.

this would be nothing like isiah rider. that would be us trading joe johnson and josh childress for isiah rider and eduardo najera.
this is more like signing olawakandi to be a backup. it might not work, but there is pretty much no risk in doing a deal with him.
as for the hometown thing it would probably be best for him to have someone cheering for him when he first comes in.

if anything signing him for a two-three year deal gives us insurance just in case zaza decides to leave after this year.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
Yeah its not like were bringing in Kwame to save the Hawks here man. We NEED another legit big man that can bang and rebound down low. There is no way in hell Kwame can be worse than Zaza is there? I don't know if i can handle watching Zaza just flop around and turn the ball over again with his minutes. Kwame played very solid for the Lakers whenever I caught their games before he got traded and he is better than Zaza at least. We have to do something here and he is the best big man available right now plus he just worked out for us. We need to sign him ASAP! It's pretty clear now that we don't have to offer Smoove some ridiculous contract that would put us over the luxury tax since he can't sign with anyone now that the Clippers are out. Memphis doesn't want him either. So you would think we could sign Kwame for peanuts at this point. Just give him a 2yr 4-6mil deal. We should still have enough to sign both joshes without going over the cap.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
I think the "cancer" thing is overblown. He seems to have grown up lately (even though his offense is still baby-like). Many of the Laker fans like him.
That said, if he is indeed still a problem, a cancer is a cancer no matter the salary.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
I have no idea what any of you guys are talking about. I don't think he's a cancer, but he certainly has a horrible attitude. He can't catch a basketball, his shot is literally worse than it was when he came into the league, and almost no Laker fans liked him. He got booed a bunch in LA. He has a fragile psyche and all he does is play some solid post defense (it's hard to back him down). If that's ALL you're looking for, then he's your guy, because he can't do anything else.
and I have no idea what you're talking about with the contracts. I understand he wouldn't be brought in to have a huge role with the team but his bad attitude has nothing to do with his contract.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
also, i never heard of kwame actually being bad for the team, it was more about people's (media & fans) expectations being too high for him. it's kinda like how alot of people feel about marvin. i never knew how important draft night was for somebody's career.
i remember reading an articale about him on si.com, they talked about how he just wanted to be a regular basketball player, not a superstar or anything, just one of the guys. i think that's one of the problems with the NBA Draft process. if he was picked with the 10th pick in that draft people would have been cool with him but because he was picked number 1 everybody thinks he sucks. a number shouldn't carry that much weight. or that probably means that you shouldn't take someone who doesn't want to be an uber-star with your number one pick.

I will take about anyone over Zaza. Yes he acted tough with KG, but it hurts me to watch zaza just let guys go right by him for layups.

I'm with lunarblues on this one, Kwame has failed to live up to high expections (#1 pick in Washington, $8-9M per in LA). I don't think of Kwame as a starting C. I am looking for a defense presence in the middle and rebounding for a reasonable price. I know his hands suck and he'll never be an offensive force. The only thing I worry about is his high number of missed games.
Edit - I've also never heard anything about being a cancer.

Re: We MUST sign Kwame Brown!!!
Where's this "Kwame's a cancer" crap coming from? Everyone in L.A. seemed to like him...
He's not a backdown center; that was Phil Jackson's fault... and Doug Collins and Eddie Jordan's fault for trying to mould him into one. His greatest success, limited as it was by his own shortcomings (many as they are) and the actions and circumstances that have defined his career has come as a mid-range face-up big man. He used to have a decent 15-footer and some face-up game. When he had his 30pt outing against Webber, that was almost all face-up action. If the Hawks are fine with him doing that and otherwise rebounding and defending the post, then you'll get a bargain and whatever cheap price for which you can sign him.
Kwame still has 15 ppg potential in him if you can work through his various issues and shortcomings because he's still very quick and strong and has decent enough form on his J that if he got back to working on that, it'd be good again.
And his offensive rebounding and defense will always be there for you. You're talking about someone who will probably sign for the LLE; he'll be fine. He has some odd off-court antics, sure, but so do many well-respected NBA players. He's not a cancer.
He's a cheap big man who'll do well in a simple role for any team. The Lakers got tired of him because he was worth $8+ million a year, which was too much. But under the MLE, you're talking about a guy who can't help but contribute to your rotation, especially if it shoves Horford back to the 4 for stretches during the game.
You give Kwame 20 to 30 mpg and he'll give you at least 8/6 with his post defense, which isn't bad. If you regress his offense back to simple stuff, he'll probably be a double-digit scorer.
