A Nets fan's Carter to Mavs trade

Post#1 » by Chris24 » Thu Jul 17, 2008 2:46 am

Hey - what do you think of this trade -

Nets Trade Vince Carter and Trenton Hassell AND Mavs 2010 first rounder to Dallas for Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse

Why the Nets do it - this trade would give the Nets maximum flexibility in the summer of 2010 while still being able to replace Vince with an all star caliber swingman. Stackhouse is an expiring deal, and he can at least score plenty, which we would need with Vince gone. Howard is signed for 2 more years, with a TEAM option for 2010, for about 10 million. This would be perfect for the Nets. If for whatever reason, they think they can entice Lebron AND another big name FA, they can decline Howard's option. Or they can pick up the option and increase their cap space to go after Lebron (Howard's 10 million 2010 contract is 7 million less than Carter's 17 million he is supposed to get in 2010. A 30 year old Howard may very well be better than a 34 year old Carter anyway.) In the interim, they get younger with Howard, and they could still be competitive with Stackhouse and Howard the next 2 years. Nets roster would look like:

PG: Harris M.Williams
SG: Stackhouse Hayes
SF: Howard Najera
PF: Jianlian Boone
C Lopez Krstic Williams

Why the Mavs do it - Kidd and Howard did not exactly mesh well last yr. Maybe their styles just don't mix. There have been rumors Mavs are open to trade Howard, and they already tried to dump Stackhouse on us through a Diop sign and trade. There is no doubt the Mavs are in a win now mode, with Kidd arguably significantly past his prime, and with Nowitzki perhaps nearing the end of his prime. Carter should give them a boost and make them better. Cuban is not shy of bold moves and seemingly has empty pockets so the near 50 million he will owe Carter should not scare him off. The Mavs lineup would be stacked to for championship competition perhaps for two years. After that, their window would likely be shut. The Mavs would look like:

PG: Kidd Barea
SG: Terry Wright
SF: Carter Green
PF: Nowitzki Bass
C: Dampier Diop

What do you all think of this trade?

Then all you guys have to do is hire Avery Johnson....there is no way I would trade Howard to the Nets so he can be with Devin Harris again and have an All-Star like season and then the Mavs get stuck with injury prone Vince Carter, and there no way I would give them another first round pick.

Awesome reading comprehension guys. The dude wants to send our First Round Pick BACK TO US, not have us give another one to them.

i never understand why so many people hate vince (aside from torontonians)

josh is more injury prone then carter, since 04-05 season, josh has missed 47 games, in that same span carter has missed 14

VC is a good player. Getting back our pick would make us flexible for tanking.
Come on, we're not in rebuild-mode.

There's not enough incentive to take both VC and Hassell.

What about that one?

Howard would never be considered in any trade for VC

I like that second one. I still think Carter scores very empty points tho. If mavs did that trade, Hassell better be able to excel under carlisle as a 3. He didn t do nothing last year, but avery would not let him do anything either

The question that needs to be asked before I get on board is do Kidd and Carter really not get along? If it is crap than ya I think the Mavs should but if they don't get along than no the Mavs don't need to kill what little chemistry they have before the season even starts. Second question is that what NJ really wants? I thought they would want expirings so they could go get Bron in 2010?
