This deal for Odom?
If we don't get a quality starting PF for this team this year (same situation we were in last year) I'm gonna SCREEM!!! WHile LA might not like this deal, I'd be willing to try it:
Gerald Wallace and Matt Carroll for Lamar Odom: http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=4729111
This gives us a PF with range, athleticism and rebounding that we need beside Okafor. I do think Odom is underrated, and would be a significant contributor in the East. His game would compliment J-Rich well. We could use Dudley or Morrison at the 3. Losing Carroll gives up some serious bench shooting, but it could be matched by a healthy Morrison or a young FA.
LA gets a true small forward to fit beside Gasol at the 4, who is not a head case (Artest) with a reasonable contract. Carroll can contribute and is an expiring contract.
Name me any other PF we could potentially trade for that brings the skill level of Odom?
Yes, it's a gamble as he might not resign with us. But there's always a S&T option, or we get big cap relief to sign another FA.
Fact is, the Bobcats need to pull off something BIG. This team needs a significant boost similar to the J-Rich deal last year. A new coach and some rookies aren't going to cut it.

Carroll is an expiring? That can't be right. Didn't he sign a 4 or 5 yr deal last summer?
I agree w/ you that we need to make a move for a PF, although I don't want Rasheed. Is Odom the right answer? I don't think he is, but he'd be an improvement. I'd only do this if it was the last resort. I would argue that Wallace is better than Odom, so I'd probably remove Matty from the discussion and just look to do it straight up.

Re: This deal for Odom?
Carroll is the furthest thing from an expiring.
The thing is, we don't have a starting quality 3 if we trade away Gerald. Ammo? Dudley? Both contributers, but not a Gerald level starting player. If we trade Gerald away, we would probably start JRich at the 3, but then that leaves a gaping hole at the 2. Since you traded away Carroll, we have nothing at the 2, unless you want to start Felton there.
I disagree that we have to do something big. A new HOF coach will do wonders with a squad who had no coaching for the past year, and a placeholder coach before that. Larry Brown was our big offseason move. If we secure Okafor, this is the squad we're going in with. If we don't then we go after our PF with our money... maybe a double S&T with Josh Smith.

Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Re: This deal for Odom?
Sorry, wrong about Carroll and the expiring. Yes neither Dudley or Ammo equal a Gerald, but Odom does in a big way. He shores up significant gaps we have. Who will we start then with the current squad?? LB is talking about May as a starter. PLEASE!!! This guy as our #1 option??? I'll take a star level player like Odom and gladly insert Dudley or even Ammo at the 3 versus keeping Gerald and using May there. And if not May?? Davidson? That's all we've got. We have no depth there, much less a starter. So before we worry about not having Carroll, who can be replaced much easier, or inserting Dudley who is a good all-around glue player on a team, we'd better worry about one of the hardest positions to fill on a quality NBA team (PF).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: This deal for Odom?
I wonder if we'd be able to pull a deal like this off and then make an offer to J-Chill....
PG - Felton/DJ
SG - Childress/Weaver
SF - J-Rich/Ammo/Dudley
PF - Odom/May/Ajinca
C - Okafor/Nazr

J Rich would be shooting guard and Childress would small forward if that was the lineup

Re: This deal for Odom?
Doubt we'd have the cahones to pull off a Childress deal, but it would be a very interesting line-up!

They would both occupy the wing. Childress would be able to initiate the offense. Don't think the MLE gets him though.

Chill would also guard the opposing teams best guard/forward.
I wish that we could trade the Hammer for him. They need a shooter, we need a player with his skill set.

Re: This deal for Odom?
I like that Odom rebounds, but if we have the option of Childress or Odom, I think we're much better off with Chill.
We really want this guy? http://youtube.com/watch?v=82CxSmn2cik

that must have been a 5 bong hit pre-game night for lamar, as opposed to the usual 3.

Re: This deal for Odom?
lol, well he's still a good player and would be the best PF option on our team. I do think if Bernie weres till here we'd look into going after J-Chill, I know he's always been a fan. He is the kind of wing player we need though if we're able to move Wallace for a PF. Defensively oriented, can handle the ball, can finish at the rim, etc.

Re: This deal for Odom?
What the Lakers would prefer about a deal with Charlotte is that you guys can also simply swallow Odom's deal whole if need be and still be able to trade away Okafor for what you desire.
Odom is much better than most REALGM posters will tell you. Research his stats and his efficiency and you'll see that. He's also not soft as the Finals label has said. He put up nearly the same stats he did all year against the #1 defense in the league.
That said I'm not sure what the fit would be with you guys. The biggest part of the deal for us would be getting rid of salary so that we can drop back under the luxury tax. Matt Caroll I'm not so interested in unless maybe we swap Luke-Caroll in the deal.
