Artest on your team? Why?

Post#1 » by King Baller » Fri Jul 18, 2008 3:05 am

Hey guys,

As a Kings fan I am pretty interested in all the chatter about Artest trades. We have heard about trades from every angle, so lets leave the trade thing alone for now. I am curious how you think Artest can help your team win? What will Artest do for your team to make it worth giving up assets?

we're willing to eat KT's contract :) the maloofs are supposedly friends with cuban and brandon bass has potential to be a good player in this league but wont get enough minutes while playing behind dirk, especially with diop back.

artest will give us a hard nosed defender that we've lacked forever

Stop people in their tracks, while providing some scoring as well. For example, the Lakers could have certainly used Artest in the finals against Pierce instead of a flailing Radmanovic. He is very, very valuable for a team after a championship imo.

Fit right into our defensive scheme, and finally provide a 3rd scoring option alongside Yao and Mcgrady. Problem is, I think being a 3rd option would anger Ron Ron, and Lord knows you don't wanna anger Ron Ron...

It's pretty simple for the Lakers. Would Pierce have went off like that against Ron instead of Vlad?

He is what the Lakers need and I have this crazy feeling he will be wearing the P&G by the begining of the season.

Realistically, Lakers has the highest chance to obtain Artest's service if they put Odom on the table.

As a Rockets fan, I don't mind send a package of a promising rookie Aaron Brooks + expiring contracts + a 2nd rounder in exchange of one year rental of Artest. I don't think we can take any more contracts in return because Yao's salary kicks in and we could possibly not able to accept any more contract. If you don't want a pg we could possibly a sign and trade of sharp shooting Steve Novak instead of Brooks and the right of our 2nd rounder this year Maarty Lauren who is playing exceptionally well in the summer league which give you guys a boost off the bench.

We owned the 22-game-winning streak last year and we just need to stay healthy especially our star Yao ming and Tracy Mcgrady. However, Artest is like an insurance if something bad happens, and he also provides us more fire power and a reliable 3rd options. I am not so sure why Kings giving up on him so early because his market value might probably be even more higher after the all-star break, especially some lottery teams striving for a playoff ticket.

I have a strong feelings Artest will go back to eastern conference since King rejected Lakers' offer. King's front court is very thin and Odom would be a hugh boost. I believe King want to get rid of Artest is real and they are probably considering ship him to eastern conference. It would be very interesting if Artest plays with Lebron side-by-side and realistically Cleveland has Anderson Varejao and draft picks to offer.

It might be a pipe dream that Artest in Rockets uniform.

Utah wouldn't give up a ham sandwich for him. Every trade with him ending up in Utah is pointless.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

All you guys make good points. Seems like it boils down to Ron being a hard nosed defender. Plus he has the ability to score in the post and shoot from outside.

As far as the Utah comment I think Jerry Sloan and Ron Artest like the game played the same way. I bet if Jerry was younger and they were team mates they would be good together. BUT since Sloan is older and is the coach it probaly would not work out because its gotta be Sloans way or its the highway. The Kings vs. Jazz games the last couple of years have been very entertaining :D If Sloan could find a way to coach Ron, the Jazz would be favorites in the west IMHO.

Lets not forget what led up to the Detroit brawl. Ron was going toe to toe with Ben Wallace who was still in his prime and had quite a few lbs on Ron. Ron will bang with anyone in the league. I did not know what a tough guy he was until I watched him full time with the Kings. Make no mistake, when they put tough in the dictionary, Ron's face is right next to it.

So how can Ron help your team?
