Wait...so Brandon Jennings Can Sign With Any Team Right?

Post#1 » by Boobs » Thu Jul 17, 2008 10:09 pm

I don't know if this has been discussed or not...but now Brandon Jennings has the option of going to whichever team he wants. So say, the Lakers throw the MLE to him...he can go to Lakers and win, and then have that winning sensation and won't be called upon to lead his own franchise (maybe if that's what teams wanted from him)

My question is, why don't more NBA players do this? I mean a guy who is so hyped, like Greg Oden, could have surely got at least 10 mill per year from a team that was ready to throw money his way. Sure some could argue it's not about money, but what about going to any franchise you want? I'm sure EVERY team would have been ready to give the entire MLE to a player hyped like Greg Oden, so he could have gone to any team.

So really, why don't more highschool players do this?

No. He just like any international player. When he declares he is available to be drafted. The only international players that become free agents are those that were not drafted by I think there 22nd birthday. I could be wrong on the year though.

I do think you could see more playersdo this. The money is getting 2 big out there and in some cases you could get more endorsements in a place like Rome than you would if you were about to play in OKC. If the age limit goes up another year and Jennings has success I could see some teams in Europe making a push at some HS players.

I agree. The problem you are going to have is how many of these high schoolers are mature enough to move 2000 miles from their home to a place where they don't speak the language and they aren't as insulated as they were in their hometown or they would be in college?

He can't sign with any nba team he wants, he has to declare for the draft or he can become automatically eligible by a certain age

yeah you just can't sign with any NBA team. you gotta get drafted if you're younger than 22 or you're not in college anymore.

However he can sign with an NBDL, Australian League, Euroleague, Chinese team.....

Next year he gets drafted and plays in the NBA
