2 Assistants Added

Post#1 » by evildallas » Thu Jul 17, 2008 5:39 am

Just a brief mention at the end of the Sekou Smith article. Jim Todd and Tyrone Hill added to the staff. If anyone has a take or more info on them it would be appreciated.

Tyrone Hill is a former NBA player (Forward), who played in the league 14 years with teams in Cleveland, Golden State, Miami, etce . He had been a volunteer coach with the Hawks for the past two years.

I know nothing about Jim Todd.

From what I remember, Jim Todd is known as a big-man coach.

I was lucky enough to see the hawks summer camp team practice on Tuesday for about an hour and a half and I didn't see Tyrone Hill do much during drills, though he did coach one of the teams for scrimmages.

Thanks both of you. I hope that Jim Todd is a big-man coach because our last one was a bad step backward (Alton Lister).

Jim Todd has been around for years, so he's going to be able to offer us a lot, and I'm very pleased that he's joining our staff. Very classy but intelligent move by Sund.

Jim Todd sounds like a smart pickup. At first I was thinking of Pete Newell holding the "big man" camp, but I forgot Todd ran something like that too years later. He'll do what I hoped Mahorn would do for the Hawks, but with about 5-times less drama.

Good article on him from NBA.com's Bucks page. Like most assistants he doesn't stay in one place long, as his stint last year in Milwaukee was his third separate time with the Bucks. He did a nice job with Bogut's development from what I little I saw last season. Also helped develop the Dunkin Dutchman back in the 80's while an assistant at Marist.

The Woody Connection is apparently from Milwaukee, where Chris Ford hired him and Woodson as assistants back in 1996.

HMFFL...all assistant coaching hires are Woody's decision. Sund's job is the contract negotiations, which NBA Assistants earn an average between $100-300 K a year.
