That Bird is looking to deal Tinsley to MIA in exchange for Udonis Haslem. Nothing much else was said.
Don't kill the messenger if its just a bogus rumor.

This has been going around for several days now. Reportedly Miami turned it down, but hopefully Bird keeps at it and Riley eventually gives in.

I like it, but Pacers will have to give up something else and Shawne & Jamaal for Udonis is too much for me.
I wonder if IND could setup a Jamaal and Cash for Udonis deal where IND would pay so much of Jamaal's contract to help sweeten the deal.

I don't think Shawne and Tinsley is too much for Haslem. I don't particularly like some of the things I've heard about his attitude, but I've only seen him lose his temper once so I'm not sure all of the things are true. In any case, it's a better situation to have a PF with an attitude problem than a PG with a life problem.

Shawne is sweetner at this point......I don't mind keeping him....but I have no problems moving him if we can get rid of Tinsley.

That would be a great deal if Indiana could somehow get it done. I just don't understand why Miami would even think about giving us Haslem for Tinsley. That doesn't make sense for their perspective. If Miami wanted Williams I would have little trouble parting ways with him.

I like Shawne and think he will be at the least a pretty decent player one day but if it means getting rid of JT for Udonis, I would do it.

I thought I heard Riley say that Haslem would play a lot of center for the Heat this season. If he goes, who do they have? A 38 year old Alonzo Mourning coming off major knee surgery? Mark Blount? Not exactly promising.
I"d trade Tinsley for vanilla wafers and a Fanta at this point, so I'd do this in a heartbeat.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
Miami has an All-Star (Marion) and a future superstar in Michael Beasley at PF, they don't need average Udonis Haslem. Maybe they plan on playing him at center, but at just 6'8', I'm skeptical. On the other hand, they're very weak at the point. All they have is washed up Jason Williams and horrible Marcus Banks. Tinsley and his playmaking ability would be a sizable upgrade.
They could use Foster and Tinsley. And with our picking up two centers this offseason and acquiring a PF in Haslem, I think we can afford to move them both. I like Foster, but I don't buy into the idea that he should be considered close to untouchable.
Foster & Tinsley for Haslem & Blount sounds good to me. We'd have a decent PF/C rotation, we'd be removed from Tinsley and his contract, and, without doing the actual math, we should have sizable capspace in 2010.
PF: Murphy/Haslem/Baston
C: Rasho/Hibbert/Blount

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
Hi guys, Heat fan here. Hope you don't mind me stopping by. I'm not here to troll, I just wanted to give you the Miami perspective.
First of all, Miami's goal is 2010 cap space. That would mean that Tinsley's contract runs a year too long for us. If his deal were a year shorter, I'm sure you guys would have already moved him. In ANY trade involving Miami, I am quite confident that Marcus Banks' inclusion would be mandatory, and even then I'm not sure we'd want to do it as Tinsely is due $3 million more than Banks.
Second of all, Shawne Williams is not an incentive for us to do this deal. We already have Dwyane Wade, Daequan Cook, Shawn Marion, Dorrel Wright, and James Jones on the wing, with Michael Beasley also having some small forward skills. I would imagine that Riley would consider Jeff Foster much more tempting than Shawne Williams, and even then I'm not sure he gives up $3 million in 2010 space.
Also, FreeRon, I don't know what you've heard about Haslem's attitude, but the only thing I've ever gotten was that he's a consumate professional who is the first to arrive at practice and the last to leave. Riley named him our team captain last year. He must not be too bad of a guy...

Thanks for stopping by bballfreak, good to hear your take. I agree with a lot of what you had to say. Haslem for Tinsley straight up would be very dumb for the Heat, I don't see how that happens.

I've just heard that he's had some run-ins with the law, but the only thing I could find documented was something that happened years ago. It's nothing that I think would be an issue, we just have to be more careful with any sort of thing we hear about players because of the problems we've had the last 4-5 years.

I've never heard about Haslem having run ins with the law and I live in his hometown and am obviously a fan of his team.
At any rate, I think he'd be a GREAT compliment to your team. I think his game, and style, would really fit with Granger, Dunleavy, and Indiana. He's just a lunch pail type of guy, willing to do whatever it takes to win. you can't help but root for him. I really hope we don't trade him...

Miami also has Mario Chalmers, who looked really good in Summer League (I know...I know it is summer league). I doubt they want to hand him the starting role without serious competition, but he's another solid option they have. Jason Williams may or may not be back.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
I don't think we'll be dealing with Miami for JT, like was said they want to open up cap space for 2010 so his contract is a yr too long. Our best bet to move jt is Golden State, Sacto, Denver, Minny maybe another team or 2 but not as many as there was, NY signed Duhon, the Bucks signed Lue, Sacto resigned Udrih, don't be surprized if something happens from out of the blue.
i'd try to get a deal with Minny straight up JT for Cardinal.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
I think any young team is going to have issues with trading for Tinsley. Minnesota is probably one of those teams.
The key for moving Tinsley is either targeting someone who thinks they can reform ANY player in the NBA; i.e. Riley or Phil Jackson. However, Riley's bad contracts are Banks (we're already loaded at PG) and Blount (who's just awful, expensive, and we're already loaded at center). Jackson already is pretty set at PG for now with Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar, and Tinsley is a bad match for the triangle offense.
No one is going to value Tinsley for what he could do on the court. Basically, we're looking for someone who just wants to get rid of a horrible contract in return. Jared Jeffries. Boris Diaw. Jerome James. Those are the guys we're going to get in return.
Try as we might, and amazing as it might be, we're not going to get a Udonis Haslem for Tinsley unless we're wiling to take back an awful package in return. I'm sure Riley's keeping in touch with Bird and has an offer out there that he's willing to take, but that it's probably a lot like what the Clippers offered the Knicks for Zach Randolph; Brevin Knight and a 2nd round pick for Zach Randolph, a 1st round pick, and $3 million in cash.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
i'd give anyone JT for a swap of 2nd rd draft picks even if ours was better, but I doubt we can find a team with the room willing to give the cap room for JT. If we could get Diaw for Tinsley I'd do that deal any day, yeah Boris is paid $9 million per season and might not be as good as he was with Nash, and his numbers have gone down 2 yrs running but his minutes have gone down as well, he's a young guy who can play 4 or 5 positions.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
I like Diaw as a player. I just hate him as a contract.
4 years/$36 million is an awful lot. Maybe he would play great with TJ Ford though. Maybe he could be our PF along with Murphy. Maybe he could pick up some minutes backing up the SF spot. Maybe he could be our backup or 3rd C next year with Rasho and/or Foster leaving. Who knows. I just don't see enough minutes to justify a contract like Diaw's, unless we can move him again for better value.

Re: ESPN 1070 just said
yeah Diaw would have to play 4 postions including backup center to get the minutes, and you know I like a versital guy like that. Check out the idea I keep hearing and seeing that the Suns want to move him and Barbosa so 3 team deal, Pacers/Suns/Nets. Trade ID #4733001.
pacers in Diaw, Sean William or Josh Boone, and Van Horn, pacers out JT, Q, an Shawne.
Suns in JT and Marquis Daniels, and Shawne, Suns out Barbosa and Diaw.
Nets in Barbosa, Nets out KVH and either Boone or Sean Williams.
might have to add some draft picks here and there, KVH has an ungaranteed contract so he gets cut, we'd save some money this season, Suns get expiring and a back up for Nash, question is would the Nets be into this?
If we could put something like that we'd be rid of JT and Shawne save a little money this season and pay a little more next season after the 2009-10 season Murph and Dunleavy are down to 1 yr each and we could trade either of them as exp contracts with some value as players. Again questions are how bad do the Suns want to cut salary and would the Nets be interested?
