Official Get Matt Holliday Thread

Post#1 » by SARGO127 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:36 pm

Reports are Holliday is available. We need to jump on this, quick.

a package of Melky + McCutch + Horne + another mid to low prosect should be able to get us Holliday. I'd consider trading any prospect outside of Montero or Jackson for him.

yyyyeeaaahhh

i don't think that package would get it done since they asked the mets for fernando martinez and carlos beltran.

besides, like the kandi man said ... his home/road numbers for his career is 2 different players. don't get me wrong, he's a good player but definatley a product of coors.

That package would not get him.

I'd love Holliday, he could play LF everyday for a long time. His splits aren't really that bad, loses some power outside of Coors, but the average is still pretty good on the road.

I don't know what it would take to get him, but I'd give up 2-3 top prospects for him.

Would you give up Cano, Hughes and Melancon? That's probably the type of package it would take to get him. Maybe a Melky, Hughes, Melancon, and Tabata package gets it done. Still do it? I sure as hell would not. -Jitpal

Of course not, at this point Cano is no longer a prospect. Hughes was our #3 pitcher coming into the year (I know it didn't work out that way). If the Rockies were asking for a package like that, you might as well say he isn't really available, because no organization is going to give up a ML .300+ mid 20s player, a #1 pitching prospect in addition to two top high quality minor leaguers. Melancon and Tabata with a low level prospect is a deal I may do adding Cano and Hughes makes Holliday untradeable. If that is indeed the Rockies asking price, they would obviously not really be interested in dealing him.

No thanks. His splits aren't worth the top dollar "Coors production" we'd have to pay for him.

Take a look at this for what they were looking for from the Angels. Link. That is like asking us for Hughes, Cano and either Joba or Wang. They can keep him for that sort of package if you ask me. -Jitpal

Edit: I can wait for 2010 when he is a free agent, the same time Matsui and Damon are free agents. We would also know by then if Jackson or Tabata are going to be players or not and if Melky/Gardner develop into players. -Jitpal

The Rockies will have to get serious eventually if they want to trade him before his contract is up. I don't want him either way; Boras will be looking for superstar money for him after 2009 and he won't be worth that much.

I'd do Matt Holiday for Austin Jackson in a second.

I'm not saying I wouldn't but there are a few concerns here. Austin Jackson projects as a 5-tool CFer and Matt Holliday is a corner OFer. We would need to be confident that either Melky or Gardner could handle CF full-time for the foreseeable future. If Melky can stay consistent at the .285 level, maybe 10-12 home runs a year and that stellar defense then I'd do it or if Gardner can hack at this level to a .300 or so clip with a lot of walks. Keep in mind that Holliday's splits outside of Coors aren't great and with Boras as his agent he would be expecting a nice 6-7 year 120 million dollar type deal in 2010. Is it worth it? With all of that said, I don't think Austin Jackson for Matt Holliday gets it done from Colorado. -Jitpal

I would not do that. Is Gardner our full time CF-er then? He hasn't shown enough to get that spot and there is no reason to believe that Damon can fill it in full-time either. He couldn't do it before busting up his shoulder, what type of throws can he make now? Holliday isn't playing CF and unless we get another one back, we can't give up Melky right now. Tabata is a very interesting prospect but I would give him up if we can sign Holliday to an extension within a 48 hour period or whatever. I like Sanchez and I think he has the stuff to be a good closer but I would give him up. Kennedy is fine. McCutchen I would like to keep because we would need at least one or two starters between next year and 2010. Hughes, Wang and Joba; the rest are too old to be counted on long term. Horne we can do. We don't need Feuntes at all. A lefty reliever is a good idea but Feuntes is not that good.

I'd see if we can do Kennedy, Horne, Tabata and Gardner for Holliday signed to an extension. Maybe it can be done but without the extension I don't want to give up Tabata. Maybe I'm too attached to the minor leaguers. -Jitpal

I don't think I would do that either. I don't think Fuentes is that big a deal (I like Marte much better).

However, our CF issue wouldn't be the reason I wouldn't do it. An OF of Holliday/Gardner is much better then Gardner/Melky. If it meant we got Holliday, I would sacrafice Melky, and I like Melky a lot more then most people on this board.

We need a right handed hitting OF'er in the worst way IMO. Holliday would be a perfect fit. This is a deal I'd think about, but probably would rather pass and try to get Bay, Nady or even Dunn for less.
