MLE at DWest, LLE at Harrison

Post#1 » by s1ickd » Sat Jul 19, 2008 12:07 am

DWest can fill in at both the 1 and 2. he plays very good defense, has friends on the team, is a great locker room guy, and shoots the ball well. plus, he's still pretty young.

David Harrison is more than servicable. He won't complain if he rides the bench... and if he beats Obryant out, he'll get the minutes at backup C. A good option in case one of our bigs goes down, which probabily will happen at some point. He's a banger.

Powe and Baby ar emore than enough backing up KG. Also, I think Giddens/Walker could back up Pierce at the 3... we're only talkin 10 minutes of rest there anyways.

interesting idea... im not big on harrison, and i think id prefer gomes @ the MLE more than dwest. im curious if dwest can be the money combo back up we all would want?

dont you think sometimes he struggled when trying to do both?

D West comes back I can break out my old signature, he and Perk were my favs on this team. I don't see it happening though, I'm not sure Cleveland would match that but I'm even less sure we'd offer it. Somehow I think with the tight money approach this off season we won't be going after any restricted free agents.

The Celtics had both O'Bryant and Harrison in for workouts and were more impressed for O'Bryant. There's no need for Harrison. As for West, I would rather use the MLE to get House and TA back then on West.

West is restricted so can't imagine Cleveland letting West walk.

Very Unlikely. PG is one of the youngest positions on our team. We have Rondo and the team hopes that Gabe Pruitt can work his way into the backup spot. That reaks of a vet minimum guy to either be the backup or third stringer. No way we throw the MLE at D West. We would only throw the MLE on a player that would help get us younger at the wing and start when Ray Allen is gone.

As far as Harrison, That is another guy that makes little sense. We signed Obryant as our young big to develop. Just like with PG, If we sign another Center we will want a veteran who can either backup or be the third stringer.

Agreed. West is not a good ballhandler and will have problems with ball pressure -- the same thing some were complaining about House. Besides, he's not worth the MLE. We can get the same ball handling (or a bit better), better shooting and a vet with championship experience for cheaper in Eddie House.

Hell no to signing West for the MLE, not only does he not deserve money, he doesn't deserve a role on this team. He'd have to back up Rondo, because he sure as anything wouldn't start over him, and would be NO better than House as a ball handler.

Sign Ryan Gomes to the MLE, or close to it and use some of it to sign a backup PG (I want House but that's doubtful). If not, sign Mo Evans or Matt Barnes as the SG-SF off the bench, I think both would be great as Posey replacements.

The only player I'd like to return, minus Big Al of course, would be Ryan Gomes. I think he's a perfect player for the team the C's have right now. He'd fit right in and be a solid role player.

Harrison isn`t really a big upgrade over O`bryant. We need another veteran big and by veteran I mean playoff experienced.

And West doesn`t deserve the full MLE, IMO. We just need to add a minimum veteran backup point if we can`t resign Eddie...

Harrison slipped because he was lazy. He didn't get pt because he was lazy. Sounds a lot like POB except he isn't as talented. Oh yea he's also been suspended for drugs, and I've seen him high as a kite many times myself. No thanks.

West would take the full MLE to pry away from CLE. CLE obvs wanted to keep Boobie first but right now with that done it's doubtfully they'll let West go; he's coming off a great playoff series against us and is in competition as CLE's #1 PG.

I don't see CLE letting him go unless they don't think they can pay that much for him. And only the Full MLE is a possibility since MEM is the only team with capspace and also 5 PGs already.

I think we should look at unrestricted free agents at this point.

What does anyone think of Brian Skinner for the vet min or something. I know we'd have to wait it out but he was always overpaid but for a vet min he could really be a solid vet BIG that we may need for Dwight Howard next season.

CLE wouldn't let *us* take Delonte without a big fight.

I've been suggesting that we sign and trade Tony Allen for Delonte. Cleveland could use Tony to defend Ray Allen during the playoffs. If that doesn't work, send the same offer to Portland for Sergio Rodriguez or Steve Blake.

I do not think we're going to be offering the full MLE to Gomes, but I'd make him a two year offer.

If we were able to add Gomes and West to our current roster, we'd have great odds at another title.

MLE x 2 is a LOT of Money

Post#15 » by eris » Sat Jul 19, 2008 8:34 pm

The problem the C's have with the MLE is the Luxury Tax. If they give a guy the 5.8 million MLE, they end up paying 11.6 million for him. I think West is worth 5.8 million, but he's not worth 11.6...very few guys out there *are* worth 11.6 million!

The same applied to Posey (maybe he is worth 20 million over 4 years, but he sure isn't worth 40!) and will apply to Gomes when his name comes up. It wouldn't surprise me a lot if Danny doesn't spend the MLE on anyone this summer...maybe use a bit of it to lock up Bird Rights to Giddens (and maybe Walker) and maybe use a bit more on a short years contract for a vet, but that might be all.

I like Delonte a lot, Gomes, too, and I'd love to have either or both back, at some point, but I don't see it in the cards. Not this year.

I would not offer West the MLE when guys like JR Smith, Ryan Gomes, and Josh Childress are still out there.

I still don't understand why people want to bring back players that led this team to a 24 win season. They are OK players, but I'd rather leave the past in the past. There are better players available.

Pierce was out for most of the season. Jefferson is good, but he couldn't carry the team, could he?

There's just no reason to get involved in a bidding war with West this year as we'll be in a better tax situation the next. We can sign a vet this year at minimum and simply evaluate the progress of pruitt or sign a new long term backup point at that time.
