Why are the Lakers letting Kobe play? They pay his salary!! The guy needs to get surgery on his fingers already. Why are the Magic allowing Howard to play? He just recovered from an injury.

My point is, if the players want to represent their countries. Let them. There is nothing that we can do to stop Yao from playing in the Olympics.

The Olympics are in Beijing which is his home continent... You know and thats a reason he opted for the surgery.. we all knew that the plan was so he come back and represent his country IN hin country..

Come on, is this a serious question?

Yao is extremely loyal to China and when the Olympics are held in his home country and he's literally the face and body of that team, he's not going to miss it even if we told him not to play (which would be disrespectful to him).

1. NBA players' salaries are insured
2. It's part of our agreement in having Yao on loan from China
3. Even if it wasn't we still couldn't tell him what to do with his time off
4. The bigger risk is damaging our relations with both Yao and China by trying to stop him from doing it. ESPECIALLY since we couldn't.

It's fairly similar if it kept him out of work or limited him or whatever. Does having a hangover from drinking too much the night before work better?

^^^That pretty much covers it. The Rockets organization agreed to this when they drafted him so they have no say whatsoever in the matter. Just deal with the fact that every summer he will play in China and hope for the best.
