Can Harrington play SF? Can he defend Small Forwards? I honestly prefer Battier over him so this is a no deal from Houston.

Just cut the Rockets out of this deal and do Marion for Harrington and a future 1st.

Rockets pass, we'll only trade Battier if we can get a SF back that can remotely guard the other team's best player--which Harrington is not. And I absolutely hate Ricky Davis's game.

I proposed the trade because I've seen a thread here about a cap space for 2010 and the need of an offensive help.
I thought the Rockets needs to improve their PF and Harrington is a help who also can play SF. I also include Davis to be a help to TMac offensively and be your team 6th man or spark plug of the bench and who's contract only runs for two years. I also thought Harrington and Davis combined is better than Battier who's major contribution is his defense.

I wouldn't mind Ricky Davis as a spark off the bench, but we don't need help at the 4.

Oh, and giving up Battier for any of those two is a step back.

His perimeter defense, McGrady already has a load on him offensively in terms of play-making and scoring, if Battier left, he'd also be forced to guard the other team's best player and this stage of his career with his athleticism on the decline and his defense showing a dramatic drop off last season, we'd become a much worse overall team.

Last time Battier didn't play (and yes I bring this up ALL the time) McGrady was forced to guard Carmelo and picked up 4 fouls BEFORE the half.

His defensive intangibles that he brings to the team is far more valuable than a few more points. Good offense is always easier to find than elite defense.

Trading Battier for two players that don't play defense, one of whom has been a career loser wherever he's gone is a step bacl.

RickY davis is a cancer to any team he's playing in and he plays absolutely no Defense and he is nowhere close to explosive where he usually was. Can't create for himself or for others. Battier is worth more than Harrington and Davis

You are mistaken. That was last offseason when many people were trying to trade Alston for Haslem(glad that didn't go through) because we didn't know what we truly had in Scola and Landry and some people, myself excluded, thought that Mike James and Steve Francis were far superior players to Rafer making him expendable. We still have Hayes and added Dorsey to the mix as a PF/C so we are actually very content at that position unless an upgrade can be had and this is no upgrade. We don't need a spark plug off the bench, we would like to have a true 3rd star or a borderline star who can be an efficient 3rd scorer capable of functioning in a structured offense.

Interesting response. I mean, if you really feel that way why not just keep Davis and Harrington for yourself along with a 1st rounder and whatever else they can give you to make the contracts work? Sounds good right? I doubt we trade Battier and Jackson's expiring for two chuckers. Battier is seen as an invaluable player by the coaching staff and the majority of the fans here except for a handful of people and he won't be moved unless the player or players coming back are true positive impact guys. More people may be more open to a deal for Marion than this one. Of course that depends on what kind of contract he wants.

The Rockets and many fans rate Battier so highly because...
1)He doesn't need the ball to be effective
2)Defends the other teams top 2/3 extremely well, and is a good team help defender.
3)Very good spot-up 3pt shooter who spaces floor for rest of team
4)While he doesn't rebound worth s***,he blocks out others, allowing Rox bigs to battle one-on-one for rebounds.
5)Hustles for loose balls, inspiring team and home crowds.
6)Good guy in the lockerroom.

While there are many things other players do better, the sum of his overall game is greater than its parts. He is a supreme role player. And his value is such that just about every trade proposal other team's fans make has them getting Battier. :)

horrible trade for houston, us trading battier+ 2 expiring contracts worth over 9 million in return for ricky davis? are you kidding me?.. we are giving up double more than we are getting back. and ricky davis may look good from the stats point of view but if you ever watched him play, he is just horrible.

I think Davis could fit our style, but he would need to calm down with his shooting dramasticlly and just play bball
