Krstic being chased by Maccabi?

Post#1 » by competitor » Sun Jul 20, 2008 6:33 pm

Marc Stein of ESPN.com wrote:Yet we have found at least one prominent target for the big foreign clubs who is determined to stay stateside. New Jersey Nets restricted free agent Nenad Krstic has been repeatedly linked to my favorite club abroad -- Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv -- but Krstic is determined to play out his comeback from a knee injury in the best league in the world, with the Nets quietly willing to move Krstic in a sign-and-trade if they can't work out a short-term deal to keep him

Seems like another NBA talent could end up in Europe this year. First Navarro, then Delfino. Garbajosa is going back... what does this mean to the international game? Will a guy like Tiago Splitter ever want to come over now? Maybe international players won't be the late-draft "steals" they have been, if these players opt to play in Europe for bigger money and more fame.

Uh, I read that article 3 times, and I got no impression that Krstic was leaving, or wanted to leave. I got the impression that Maccabi wants him, but Krstic wants to stay here (Krstic is determined to play out his comeback from a knee injury in the beast league in the world).

So I don't think this is a big deal.

Krstic doesn't want to go back to Europe he wants to play in the NBA if he does go back though it's going to be because he didn't get any serious offers from NBA teams (as a result of his injury) not because some Euroleague team is planning on wildly overpaying him.

It's probably a tad early to tell. I think we'll see a much clearer picture in 3-5 years time. During that span, the european clubs will also have received more attention and possibly higher overall salaries. If it becomes common for an Euroleague team to pay their top player $10M or more a year, I could see a fair share of decent NBA players leave for Europe.

But untill then, I might just be MLE or lower talent we'll be seing jumping ship.
