Roster Questions

Post#1 » by Socks » Sat Jul 19, 2008 3:43 am

I'm a Lakers fan coming in peace. I have a couple of questions for Clips fans. I am working an offseason transactions list for a couple of other sites and I have a few questions about the Clippers roster. Between Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman, who plays center and who plays power forward. And do you consider Mike Taylor more of a point guard or shooting guard? The Clippers offered QO's to Marcus Williams and Nick Fazekas if I'm not mistaken. Did the Clips rescind those QOs?

Kaman at C, Camby at PF. Taylor will most likely play 3rd string PG. Not sure if he has the skills to play SG, but he'd most likely be the 3rd string SG as well if injuries/fouls occur. Not sure if there are any updates on Williams and Fazekas atm.

Between Camby and Kaman, I see them switching between center and power forward back and forth on defense and offense. Kaman is the center on offense, Camby the center on defense. Just my two cents. Taylor is more of a shooting guard, but it doesn't matter since he's not making the team anyway. Clippers still have the option to make the contracts of Fazekas and Williams guaranteed. I think both make the team come November.

Didn't Taylor make the team, didn't he sign with the team already? Or do you mean, he will eventually be cut? =p Camby will probably guard the stronger PF/C on the opposing team, whether it be KG and Duncan at PF or Yao and Dwight at C. I want to see Kaman play PF though. Taylor is more like a SG, only because it looks like he struggles bringing the ball up court and running the play.

I read that Marcus Williams & Quinton Ross were renounced in order to sign Azubuike to an offer sheet. It looks like Ross is likely gone, but Williams may be signed for the minimum. Williams just started to show that he was breathing out there on the court. It may have been too late, but I could see the Clips interested in him if he shows improvement and a desire to make the team come training camp.

I had a feeling that Ross isn't coming back. I really like Q Ross, but if we get Azubuike then I guess Ross wouldn't be able to come back.

I'm glad Dunleavy is finally letting go of his love affair with Ross. Bookie is way better. Dun is making the right moves one after another :D

I don't see why we just don't have Dunleavy as the GM and we hire someone else to coach.

As long as Dunleavy is allowed to go over the cap to re-sign Ross, which is possible as long as the Clippers don't renounce him, you can bet Dunleavy will get Ross a new contract with the Clippers. And why wouldn't he? Ross is the only player who the Clippers can offer more than the minimum to.

Even if Ross is the 12th man, having a player with as much defensive skills at the end of the bench is a luxury only few teams have. Besides, Ross has been a Clippers for four years. Ross could very well become a defensive leader on the floor to some of the new Clippers perimeter players in training camp, practice and games.

If a player in front of him gets in foul trouble or injured, I would be much more comfortable with Ross on the floor in meaningful games than I would Marcus Williams. Clippers gotta take advantage of still having Ross' rights at use him to fill out the bench.

Hopefully that'll happen within the next few years.

All good points, but I think our main focus right now should be getting a backup PG. I'm not confident with B. Knight at that spot. You saw the consequences of having Knight/Dickau running the show last season, it's time we aim for Lowry/M. Wiliams.
