Suns Sign Matt Barnes

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:26 am

Just got a text from Suns.com that says we signed Matt Barnes.

Here's what AZRepublic has to say: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/ar ... arnes.html

Haha check the times too, both 9:26 PM.

Great signing for us, I thought Barnes would be more expensive

Yeah same here, I thought we had no chance at landing him for the vet. minimum. I effin love the signing and Barnes is definitely not a bench warming scrub... he can contribute on any given night.

I also don't mind posting in your thread cuz they'll be merged anyway, lol.

Maybe we play small ball with Doris at the 4 and Lopez at the 5. It wouldn't be to far fetched to think of Diaw as the primary backup for STAT since that's what he basically did last year before Shaq came in.

Great pickup, kind of a Shawn Marion light. I wonder why the Suns when he could have gotten more money. Hmm I wonder if he was promised playing time, and that there might be some kinda Joe Smith deal going on where he will sign another contract later on. As you guys have pointed out, what about Diaw? I could see this opening up something like a Diaw for Stromile Swift and Marcus Williams trade (since they have a glut of pgs now). Who knows, either way, a great pickup.

Yeah, i can see something like that. Or actually, ive been thinking more of Anderson Varejao and Damon Jones, although Jones is a liability to play the point really. I would love Swift + Williams for Diaw and do it in a heartbeat. They get the starting SF they need (Hayes or Simmons, whos more injury prone), and get rid of two redundant players (TOO MANY PFS/C"s and PG"s (YI, Boone, Najera, Lopez, Sean Williams at PF/C and Williams, Dooling, and Harris at PG, none of which are 3rd string).

That deal would be perfect for suns too.
Nash/Williams/DJ
Bell/Barbosa/Tucker
Barnes/Hill/Tucker
Stoudemire/Swift/Skinner
SHAQ/Lopez/Skinner
all we'd need to do is sign skinner and we're set with 13 players. maybe a 3rd string PG is necessary, but we can find one if nash goes down to sign at vet min (smush parker or earl boykins, someone of such sorts.)

That's a really nice 2nd unit:

LB
Barnes
Hill
?
Lopez

Re-sign Skinner and we're making some progress, however slight.

Like sd1306 has said, I too have been wanting this cat for a while as a backup SF. Nice pick up, better than Pike at least. He's the best shooter, but can hit it, but plays tough D, and does not back down. Hes a guy that is not affraid to mix it up, and does the dirty work. That is the guy we need.

I still want my boy, Shaun Livingston in a suns uni! I know it is a HUGE risk, but I would like to see the suns take it, and bring him as a backup and take their time with him, let the med staff work with him.

I also want Skinner back. Hes not scared to mix it up, and was a surprise to me last year.

Surprised it is so cheap, but good signing by Kerr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bring in these guys, and if Marbury is released, hell, bring him on too!

^ CERTAINLY HOPE SO. If we can get that Swift + Williams for Diaw deal done, this team is set after signing Skinner. We would likely be a top 3 team in the WEST without a doubt (I know you may think im making too much of this, but this guy is a difference maker, sort of like a poor mans James Posey but much better scorer because he can slash very well)

^ more like a poor mans Shawn to me. and I JUST made a post about bringing back SHAWN. Not quite SHAWN, but close enough. I should talk about bringing Koponen in, so we atleast get Dragic over this year aha.

Interesting thing in that article, it said he will step in as a starter, or backup to Hill.
