Favorite "Meeting Player" Moments

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 2:43 am

If you ever met a player or players, post what was your favorite moment, or just the one moment that occurred.

I remember I met David Robinson after a game one time, I was so excited I was like "david robinson, OMG"

Can I have a picture with you, he was like sure sure, he was really nice, and as we were taking the picture I was like "man, i voted for you in the all star game, I don't know what happened" this was back in 2003 i think

lol

Another time I met Donyell Marshall after a game and he was really cool, carrying his shoes from the arena to the bus,I was like Donyell marshall, can I have a picture with you sir, he's like sure...

So it turns out the shirt he was wearing was the same one he wore in a "NBA Cares" commercial that I recorded on tv...is that cool or what 8-)

This isn't a player but after the game, I saw Dick Stockton and Hubie Brown walking to the hotel, I was like OMG HUBIE BROWN!!

"How are you doing sir"

He looked so scared lmao he was like Im good, and stared at me from a distance, then his boy Dick Stockton motioned to him to keep walking and I was like it was a pleasure to meet you sir and he was still scared...ill never know to this day

Another time I saw this old guy running very fast to the hotel and was very pissed, he had a briefcase and was gonna kill someone. After he walked by, i was like....i think that was Jerry Sloan, so while he was still in the distance, I was like MR Sloan!! and he waived his hand while still moving forward...i felt honored

Then another time I saw Walt Frazier after a knicks game, I said OMG your CLYDE THE GLYDE...and he was like "that I am son" and said something that rhymed and then showed me his championship ring he was wearing and it sparkled like his nice white teeth.

Then after the hornets defeated the magic in the 2002 playoffs, Baron Davis was running around the arena being happy and throw his shoes to me, but someone caught it

I saw Rick Fox and he had bad breath, and so did Mitch Richmond

During a suns game, I was close to the bench, it was quiet I yelled YO Moesha, where you at girl!! and q-rich got upset

Also Ben wallace did that karate chop thing with me that he used to do with sheed before games

^ like this...he is my brotha....but then he wasnt good anymore so i dont know him....

when steve kerr was still doing tnt, after the game i was so excited to meet him, i was like "OMG you played with MJ omg you took the shot in the finals, AHHH you said you would be ready and you were, you won the championship!! "

lol he got upset or something and said calm down calm down i shook his hand and went off on another journey...kerr had bad karma since then, thats why his team is struggling :( and will continue to until the curse is lifted....

side note: Dr J, Bill Russell, and John havlicek dont give pictures of signatures, rude people i tell u!!

so...now it's your turn to share your moments, make sure to keep it real and truthful... any "stretches" of the truth, or made up stuff from imaginations will be found out and you will dishonorable discharged from the thread....

That's amazing lol, you've met a lot. This barely really counts, but I'm a cashier in Ottawa. Here, the only sport is hockey, and Sens captain Daniel Alfredsson has come through my cash twice.

i met grant hill in a barnes and noble a couple of years ago. he was a rly nice guy, he was buying a book on economics. he was rly tall and i remember him taking the time to talk to me for like 5 minutes about the magic. we were talking about his health and his ankle, and i said he mustve got his hops back bc he'd just played in the 2005 all star game and had a sick alley oop dunk in it. truly a class act.

ive met most of the magic players at an autograph sessions. pat garrity is a rly nice guy. bo outlaw is hilarious and rly nice. brian hill is a charming guy. dwight howard was joking the whole time. travis diener seemed nice. the only one that wasnt as nice was deshawn stevenson, he seemed a little arrogant and seemed to be pissed more ppl didnt want his autograph.

I saw Antonio Davis at York Mills/Bayview plaza in Toronto buying ice cream for his kids. He was nice enough to take a picture with us and told me that "things are going to look brighter in Raptorland. Just be patient." I, stupidly, took that to heart and believed him.

Antonio was later traded that year to Chicago.

Chris Dudley lives by me.

My experience with Adam Morrison in Spokane...

My friend: "Hey dude, what the **** don't take a slice of our pizza, get your own"
Adam: "Do you know who I am"
...walks off...

When I was a little kid I went to a kids camp at an athletic club in Portland. I was probably around four years old. I still have vague memories of Mychal Thompson squatting down in front of me and saying "Gimme five!" I gave him five and he said "Ouch!" I was in complete and utter awe.

A couple weeks ago I saw Clyde Drexler at a cafe by the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland. I said "Hey Glyde, you're the best!" He actually looked at me, smiled, and said "hey, how are you?" I said "I'm fine, thanks" and walked inside. My friend who I've got Blazers tix with was working at the cafe and he was freaking out. He was like, "did you see who I just sold iced cream to?" We spent the next several minutes saying things like "quarter off the top of the backboard," "greatest slasher ever," "still a class act."

About a month ago Channing Frye walked past a shop I sometimes frame pictures at. That dude is really nice. I said "Hey, go Channing!" He replied "Thanks, man!" and I nodded and went back inside. Channing spends quite a bit of time hanging out on the west side of town and a friend of mine even saw him and Oden at a house party in the northeast part of town last summer on the morning before Greg's unfortunate knee examination.

Two or three months ago, my cousin showed Greg a condo around where Channing lives, but he didn't buy it. My cousin's husband was waiting across the street with their son and he said he was pretty much freaking out at how giant and ripped Oden is.

It seems like there are always a few Blazers who love to live in the city rather than in the southern suburbs by the practice facility. I've spoken to several people who ate pizza with Bill Walton at Old Town Pizza in the 70's.

My family is pretty close with James Worthy. Been around him and his brother Danny since I was 6 or 7.

I haven't met any NBA players. I have contacted some NBA players though. I contacted Varejao and Turkoglu from a chat on NBA.com. I'm guessing Varejao had a translator with him because he chatted with me before he knew English. I contacted Elton Brand on Drew Gooden on their websites. Both of them seem like nice guys.

I didn't experience this but a fellow wolves poster met Rashad McCants a while back in a bar in his hometown (ashville IIRC). when he saw McCants he went over and asked how his rehab from microfracture is going. they had a nice chat and when he wanted to leave McCants insisted on paying the bill for the both of them. pretty nice guy if you ask me.

A good friend of mine hosted a party at a club in downtown Toronto called 'The Inside' (Vince was and still might be a part owner of this place.) Anyways, the entire Celtics team came to the club when they were playing Toronto last season and took over the entire rooftop patio. Nobody could get up there unless the owner allowed you up or my friend brought you up personally.

My friend ended up bringing me upstairs and i was up there with the entire team. It was funny to see how many groupies were dying to be noticed by these guys. I have tons of pics but cant post them from work. Anyway, each of the stars were talking to at least 2 girls and i didn't want to be that male groupie fan who is over excited and ends up cockblocking them on a night off.

As i scan the bar i notice that Big Baby is just chillin and not talking to anyone. I tell my buddy to get the camera ready as im gonna get a pic with him.

I walk up to him and say, "Big Baby, can i pls get a pic?"

Meanwhile, all i can think about is how ridiculously big this guys arms are. I'm 6'2'' and 180 lbs. This guy made me feel like i was 12.

So he says, "NAWWWWWWWWWW!!!! and throws his hand up in the air to block the camera shot.

Luckily my buddy snapped the pic right as Big Baby's hands were thrown up, with his face directed toward the camera and me smiling with my arms wide open as if to say "why?!"
I then proceed to say to him, "it's all good man, i could take you at one on one."

At that point he showed some humour, smiled and said "haha, no you can't."

I respond, "No....no i cant. But i guarantee you i'd beat you at 21."
He laughed again and walked away.

Ill try to post the pics of all the players soon.

during laker games, kareem abdul jabbar usually sits in the lower section and pretty much just relaxes and observes andrew bynum...so at half time he was walking across us and i yelled "kareeeeeeeeeeeeem" and he gave me a thumbs up, tilted his hat, and left...he seemed cool...

during that half time my friend and i went to the lobby and we see james worthy with a burger heading back to his luxury box. i said "james worthy!! its nice to meet u, can we take a pic?" he was like "sure" then we started talking a little about the old laker days for bout 2 min then he said ill see u later....

couple of minutes later, we saw mitch kupchak, jerry buss, and his son talking to eachother...once again my friend and i yelled something like "hey mitch, get kobe some help!!"...
i guess he listened.

I won a contest back in 05 so I met the entire Sixers roster. Nicest guy was by far Kyle Korver - he told me he was struggling to get used to things in Philly and we joked about cheesesteaks.

I've also run into a few on the scene in Vegas and Miami.
