Re: Oklahoma City Thunder
I think the name is horrible, but congrats to OKC for getting a young exciting team.
Was keeping them the "Sonics" disallowed as part of the buyout thing?

The Sonics are still in Seattle, except they don't have a team. Their history, logo, name, and colors are still in Seattle (property of Seattle if I'm not mistaken).
Oh Yeah

No. Technically they are NOT in Seattle. PBC owns them. They are NOT the property of Seattle. PBC has agreed to give them the right to use them once Seattle gets (if they do at all) a new team. Until that time, they are still registered to PBC.

Technically they are in Seattle. Since PBC agreed to give up the rights to name and the history of the team to get out of its lease with the city and Key Arena. What you said, is basically saying they are still in Seattle, which is what I said.
Oh Yeah

I think that the sound effects that they can do with this are going to be pretty cool. I actually like the name but i would rather have Barons. It fits our state at least.

There must be an echo on this board. No need to repeat yourself.

No, if you want any proof of who owns the Sonics name, you only have to look were any profits from Sonics merchandise (which is now the ever sought after throwback variety) goes. Where is that you might ask? Into the pockets of PBC. Where is PBC located? Oklahoma CIty. Who owns the Sonics name, NOT Seattle.

I know Mark Rogers broke this story but is it official? I thought Clay Bennet said the name would be plural. Just wondering if anyone knew for sure. I heard on the sports animal that the colors might be red and light blue. I hope not I like black/gold and dark blue/ neon blue.

What a business owner says and does can be two different things. Bennett may like plural names, but marketing may suggest otherwise. The majority of fans (a small number on message boards not withstanding) have preferred Thunder. So, for marketing, he may have selected it.
Possibility is Rogers story COULD be erroneous, however, it went national. It's rare when a story goes national and it's not accurate.
