We are not 1,2 or 3 players away from the title (unless those players are Garnett, Pierce and Allen). We are a subpar NBA team, so we should have taken the best guy available, which was a no brainer in Bayless. This was an incredibly dumb deal.
Are you serious? I totally respect almost all of your posts and i almost always agree with you, but on this subject, i just can't. I mean, i know down the road, i may agree with you, but for this? We've YET to see Brandon Rush play. The guy could be a stud. We are not the only team in the league to throw Bayliss away, teams who needed point guards drafted other options and even some teams who were rumored to draft a PG, didn't and passed up on this "stud".
He didn't fit our system. He could be a bust. He could be twice the player Rush is. To say that, and base it alot on the summer league play and not even see Rush play, isn't right.
Rush had incredible stats on a stacked team. I think that shows alot. The guy is a winner and a sharpshooter. And a great personality. The more i think about it, the more obvious it makes for us to get Rush instead of Bayliss. I think if there was no deal with Portland, we would have drafted Rush with the 11th, but we get Rush, and Jack.
Just like you said, it's a no brainer. For the Pacers. Although, with the Kings about to take Bayliss with the 12th pick, the deal was pretty smart for Portland as well.
First of all, thanks for the props. I am glad to see someone agrees with me sometimes, it shows one of two things. Either I am not insane, or you are just as insane as I am

But on to the issue. I have nothing against Brandon Rush. I think he will end up being a solid two guard in this league. Spectacular? No, but solid. I could see his production being similar to DeSwhan Stevenson. I really don't believe his ceiling is very high, but then again I highly doubt the guy will be a complete flop. I would have loved him at pick 11 IF Bayless was off the board. If it was between Rush and Augustine I would have liked Rush.
The reason I am so down on this is because of Bayless. I really think this guy will end up being a special player. He is similar to Monte Ellis with breakaway speed, very good size and strength and a nice jumper. I think he will be a guy that could score 20 a night and out rebound most guards. Yes he has things to work on, but so does everyone. Lastly, this kid is 19 years old. I don't see the Pacers legitimately competing for a title soon, so I thought he would have been a great piece to get and let develop.
Basically I think Bird REALLY screwed up and you think he did well. We will not figure out who is ultimaetly right for a few years. Hopefully Bayless turns out to be a bust and Rush becomes a superstar. I would love to be wrong on this one.
