Damn It Mitch! The Suns!

Post#1 » by sp18614 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 10:42 pm

The Suns put a shot of adrenaline into their team and what had been a sleepy free-agency period by signing ex-Golden State small forward Matt Barnes to a one-year contract.

The sixth-year NBA veteran signed for the league’s veteran minimum contract ($1.2 million, about $400,000 of which is paid by league funds) and will immediately step into the rotation as either a starter or bench player on the wing. He will be in Phoenix to take his physical on Monday morning and is expected to finalize his deal afterward.

Damn It Mitch! You mean to tell me that we couldn't do that deal. It just seems that every team in the west are making changes and getting better. New Orleans - Posey, Suns - Barnes, Clippers - Camby & BD, Portland - Oden (they didn't have him last year), we need to do something.

I am not saying to trade anyone like Lamar. I don't know if trading Lamar for Artest is such a great move but common this wouldv'e been a great move, a cheap move. Please don't tell me that you are banking on Elson & Sasha as your offseason acquisitions.

We don't need Matt Barnes when you already have a Trevor Ariza. It seems like every time somebody is out there this fan base always wants Mitch to sign him. Trevor is a much better player who fits our style, while Barnes fits what the Suns does only thing though he won't see all those free shots he saw in Oakland with Shaq and Amare.

LOL... Don't get your panties in a bunch over Matt Freakin Barnes... Let the suns have him, this is small potatoes. If the Suns, Spurs, or Hornets pick up Artest. Then start worrying. But Matt Barnes?? Give me a break.

Nooooo..... wait..... Yeeeeeesssss- more meaningless aquisitions. Steve Kerr you are my hero. I would have never guessed he'd do so much so fast to get rid of our competitors.

I like Barnes, but if you're the Lakers, you can't just keep adding players for the sake of adding them.

if by the OP's reasoning that portland gets better this offseason by oden joining, aren't the defending western conference champs getting better by adding a healthy bynum and ariza?

When people are complaining about little signings like this, you know it is the offseason.

I mean, grow up young ones. We are currently the defending Western Conference champions and are looking to repeat because look at this TC:

New Orleans - Posey
Suns - Barnes, Clippers - Camby & BD
Portland - Oden

Lakers - wait for it...

Lakers should be cleaning up in FA...

where are the Grant Hill's, the Zo's, the Malones, GP

Where are the ring chasers the the Lakers used to get in the past like Mitch Ritchmond, Glen Rice Rodman & Ron Harper
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

I am not saying to sign Matt Barnes. It is the idea that we are not signing anyone. Reports have already surfaced that the Lakers are interested in F. Elson. So you mean to tell me that are whole focus this offseason is adding F. Elson and resigning Sasha. There is no garuantee that we are going to be better next season. With the loss of Ronny we really need to be looking at adding to our bench.

I just don't see it happening.

i'd rather not make moves, than make bad moves
good things take time, when you rush things get sloppy

well, there were reports that the lakers were looking into posey and a possible trade for artest. posey's off the table now and i'm guessing the artest trade will be put on the shelf with the lakers opting to give odom the backup pf minutes (ronny's minutes)+some sf minutes. i think you are a bit pessimistic if you don't think a healthy bynum and ariza won't make the lakers better than last year.

damnit mitch? over matt barnes? really?

I'd like to reiterate what Tommy has said - If you don't think we improve with Ariza and Bynum returning, then you're taking a very glass is half empty approach.

don't tweak just for the sake of tweaking - we went 6 games in the NBA Finals, and without an embarrassing as fokk collapse that no nba finals team should ever, ever make - it goes 7. Team chemistry is much more important - and this team has it. Don't overemphasize Ronny's departure, he got paid. Good for him. But he is pretty replaceable if you ask me.

why is the sky falling?

It's not so much that it's Matt Barnes, but the fact that we need some kind of SG/SF insurance especially if Sasha leaves. If it's Michael Finley or Ricky Davis so be it. We just want someone competent enough to play second fiddle to Kobe and Ariza off the bench and be able to move Odom back to backup big man where he thrives.
