Just wonderin, maybe this could help Indiana and hopefully the Clippers in the long run.
PACERS - in:
CLIPPERS - out:
Tim Thomas
Cuttino Mobley
Josh Powell
CLIPPERS - in:
PACERS - out:
Jamaal Tinsley
Marquis Daniels
Shawne Williams
I'm pretty sure that would work cap-wise, even without Powell in the deal. Maybe throw in a future draft pick to make it interesting.
The Pacers would get 2 proven veterans in Thomas and Mobley, and a decent, young pf in Powell. Both Thomas and Mobley's huge contracts will expire in a couple of seasons, i think. Shorter than Tinsley's. Mobley would be a serviceable back-up. And Thomas has the scoring and experience we need in the frontcourt. He can play both forward spots quite well, and still has a decent perimeter shooting. Josh Powell on the other hand made glimpses of promise last season.
The Clippers would get a veteran pg in Tinsley, who is (when healthy) an upgrade over Brevin Knight. Again, that is if he's healthy. Marquis Daniels will always provide reliable defense in the backcourt. And he can get a little more playing time in LA than in Indy and maybe find his old self again. Shawne Williams (i think) would be a good addition to the young core of Thornton, Azubuike, and Gordon. I think maybe he's messing things up so Larry would send him somewhere, i don't think he likes to be in Indiana cause if he really wants to stay, he should've sold his car months ago and just walk his way to his destination.

Why do the Clips want Tinsley when they just signed Baron Davis?

The only way to explain this is that they are afraid of the injury history of Baron Davis, and also Briven Knight.
But to make this deal done, it is very possible that the Pacers need to send some future first round picks instead of recieving Powell.

Am I really reading a thread that argues Jamaal Tinsley would be desired to provide an insurance policy in case someone else gets injured?
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

No thanks.... I am not a fan or Thomas or Mobely. This proposal's only benefit is getting rid of three suspect characters (albeit talented "suspect characters").

My trade idea:
Shawne Williams + McRoberts ( if needed )
for
Quinton Ross ( S&T )

I think we'd do Shawne for Powell at this point.

I would much rather have Ross......defensive-minded perimeter roleplaying Guards are hard to find. I would much rather wait til next season to get the backup PF that we need.

Re: Trade Idea: LAC - IND
My thinking is Shawne might be provoking Larry to send him elsewhere. He's been given enough chances but he keeps on wasting it. I mean, if he REALLY wants to be in Indiana, after all the troubles he brought in, he's gotta make big efforts to convince everyone that he really wanted to stay. And it starts at small things like wearing a sealtbelt, securing a driver's license, etc. I'm not seeing even the smallest effort from Shawne.
Scouts and people in the league knows Shawne's skills and potential. Troubles aside, he can be a really good player down the road. Maybe a change of city would be a change of behavior for him.
In moving Tinsley, there's a bigger chance that the Pacers would make a sacrifice, like adding a valuable player to send Tinsley out, taking less talented guys, taking older veterans nearing retirement, etc. IMO, that would be the only way we can move Tinsley. And it seems that we will not and we can't make a trade with Tinsley alone.
In this trade idea, my thinking was the Clips MIGHT want a younger back-up guard like Marquis. He's a good defender, he just needs playing time. He will not have that much playing time in Indy now that Brandon Rush is in the mix.
Shawne would be a good fit for the young core of the Clippers with Thornton, Azubuike, and Gordon. There is not much question about his talent. And IMO, he has the highest trade value among the three.
Thomas (31) and Mobley (34) are nearing retirement, though they can still play quite effectively. And still would be valuable reserves. And both have huge expiring contracts in two years. Powell would be a nice, serviceable back-up.
