Memphis Commercial Appeal: Crittenton could be headed out

Post#1 » by Hotshot Hower » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:06 am

With Griz backcourt packed, Crittenton could be headed out before season starts

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jul/22/five-is-a-crowd/
"I like that kid," the observer said. "He can play."

The kid?

Javaris Crittenton.

Will he play in Memphis next season?

That appears to be a 50-50 proposition as Crittenton, a 6-5 combo guard, is likely the odd man out in the five-way guard conundrum facing the Grizzlies. Crittenton, whom Memphis acquired in the Pau Gasol trade with the Los Angeles Lakers in February, is expecting to have another address fresh off his summer workout and the realization of where he fits in the pecking order.

Crittenton understandably is indifferent about his status with Mayo bringing buzz and high draft status, and Jaric entering with a long-term, lucrative contract.

"It's up in the air right now," Crittenton said. "You never know if I'm going to be traded. It's the NBA. You can't be relaxed. I just want to be somewhere I can play."

Reportedly, the Griz and Orlando Magic were engaged in trade talks regarding Crittenton soon after the summer league schedule. But Wallace said Monday that nothing was imminent on any front.

Wallace downplayed any notion that Crittenton or anyone else would be traded to Orlando or anywhere else any time soon. Wallace said the Griz haven't had more than cursory discussions with any team.

and more...

Wallace, though, didn't rule out addressing the guard situation before training camp begins in October.

"Probably in the best interest of the player and developing the guards is to make some change at some point," Wallace said. "We've got four talented guys with high aspirations for their careers. It's hard to develop four young guards."

When assessing the "young" guards, Crittenton is closest to Mayo's skill set without the long-range shooting ability.

this to add:

Crittenton has reached out to former NBA guard Mark Price, a Grizzlies consultant, for instruction since the 2007-08 season ended.

"He's taught me a lot. He's a great shooter," Crittenton said. "In order to improve my shooting, I wanted to work with one of the best. He emphasized footwork. A lot of people don't understand how important footwork is with shooting. He broke down a lot of stuff to me that I didn't even know would help your shot."

I want this kid on our team now!!!

he must headed out now, not later!

this man needs to come home to reunite with his brother of so long ago,

seriously javaris needs orlando, and the magic need javaris...perfect match, but will it ever happen.........
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

yeah, I think so.

You have to bet Dwight is lobbying for this and probably Javaris too along with there agents Aaron Goodwin (Dwight's agent) and Wallace Prather who I read was an under-study of Goodwin.

keep them fingers crossed!

1. that he cannot shoot does not bode well.
2. can he dribble ?
3. can he make plays without too many mental lapses?
4. can he defend?
5. the rest is inconsequential.
only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

oh and I was doing a little reading on Wallace Prather who is the agent for Crittenton and Josh Smith...

His father Wallace Prather III recently passed away but was well known throughout the AAU circuit of prep stars (i.e. Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Javarris Crittenton) aka Atlanta Celtics...

Prather's only clients are Critt and J-Smoove...

so I'm just seeing how all this could come to play which increases our chances at nabbing Critt

Yes, but we have many better guards, Lee has a better outside shooting. If we get him, we need to develop Crittenton as a pg.

Just to add to this. Like another Griz poster said, when Tillery releases an article like this a move tends to happen in a week or two after the article. Good luck. :)
