Marcus Williams traded to GS!

Marcus Is Gone

By FRED KERBER

Well, so much for fighting for his job.

Point guard Marcus Williams, who recently vowed to fight for his minutes after the Nets acquired Keyon Dooling, is headed to Golden State for a future first round pick. The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011 – so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-to-11. It’s protected 1-to-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets s\get second rounders in 2013 and 2015.

good deal for the warriors, they got some really nice youth

while the nets continue to accumulate assets
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

He had no place with the Nets . He never felt comfortable in a backup role and played like it . The few games he started he was OK ( aside from his bad defense ) but that wasn't going to be the case in NJ with Harris here now.

one of the most overrated potential players in the NBA..I watched many Nets games this year and went to a few, and I couldn't believe anybody believed in this guy's potential..

Good trade for both teams although I'm surprised Williams didn't end up on the Suns.

Isn't Marcus severely overweight for a PG? like Chris Childs-esque? How the hell is he gonna run the show in that offense.

I didn't want to trade Marcus, but I didn't think we'd get a first rounder for him either. Its not a bad fit for him in GS. He can run the point and shoot the three. And they won't ask him to play defense.

This does leave us pretty thin at the backcourt though. If Harris gets injured....

Yeah... i don't think he is worth a 1st rounder.

I am sure Camby is banging his head against a wall.

Wow. And Marcus Camby got traded for a second round pick. Why not add more salt to that wound?

This has been one of the stranger offseasons recently.

I remember most people were saying he was going to be better then Deron Williams coming into the league.

It is quite sad that I have a better body than a professional basketball player. Marcus Williams never really got into professional shape leading up to the draft. He was drafted with a 14% body fat... and I honestly doubt he has ever been under 10% while in the NBA.

The Camby thing was a straight up salary dump. Not that i condone it but its not the same situation as this Marcus Williams trade.

It wasn't for a second round pick. It was for the option of swapping 2nd rounders which made it even more insulting.

GS made a good trade here and it's one that may just end up working out for them if Marcus can stay healthy.

I remember Jay Williams (post motorcycle accident recovery) kicking his butt in pre-draft workouts, which was not a positive sign (especially after Jay failed to stick with an NBA team).

Williams, however, is a PG and the Warriors need one with Baron gone, because Monta (while many things) is not a PG.

Of course, having said that, he's large and more Mark Jackson than Kevin Johnson, so one wonders about his fit. If he gets in shape and gets moving, then it should be interesting but he doesn't have BD's jumper IIRC, so that might limit his efficacy some. Interesting trade; great for the Nets, especially since even with Magz, the Warriors stand to face a tough battle to make the playoffs. A lottery pick (I wonder what protection is on it?) couldn't hurt New Jersey's cause. Wonder what Vince is thinking these days, post-extension?
