I seriously don't think we're gonna acquire another "PG of the future" until we lose faith in Devin Harris. I think if we go after anyone, it's gonna be a solid SG prospect or a solid SF prospect if we move Williams.

I would have rathered he be packaged for something a bit more but all in all it was a decent deal to me. I wouldn't have given the Nets a first rounder for fat boy

Re: Marcus Williams Traded To Golden State
I love it. When you can turn a 3rd year PG with no defense and a non-existent NBA resume into a 1st rounder, you did well. I loved the M. Williams pick when it occurred, but he has shown to be unprofessional and unimportant in terms of the teams success. People always seem to be down on future picks but the actual worth of them is the same as current picks, you simply have to wait for them. We are rebuilding and stockpiling future assets is the way to go.
As for Marcus, its a good fit for him. He still has talent but he would never learn without PT, and even then he needs SERIOUS work on his defense if he wants to make it in this league.

Re: Marcus Williams Traded To Golden State
I love Marcus and was fine with taking him at 22...but I still wanted Jordan Farmar instead of him. Farmar was a more true PG and was younger and honestly felt he had more upside. I hate taking young college players too so for me to still want Farmar over Marcus is pretty telling at least in my head.
As for the pick, I'm just not happy because of all the restrictions to it. It's driving me crazy. Do I believe the Warriors will make the playoffs between 2011 and 2013? Yes. I hate if they don't though that in 2013 it turns into two 2nd round picks. It should have been protected like this:
2011: Lottery Pick
2012: Top 7
2013: Top 3
or vice versa whichever GSW thought was more realistic to their agenda.
Again Regardless, I guarantee we're gonna trade this pick eventually.

Re: Marcus Williams Traded To Golden State
This is the best move Rod Thorn has made since the Carter deal.
Anyone who thinks that we got gypped in this is OUT OF THEIR MIND. Marcus had zero chance of succeeding in New Jersey. He's been given plenty of opportunities to step up for us. We looked to him to relieve a deteriorating Jason Kidd for 15 minutes a night, and he couldn't handle that.
He could very well pan out someplace else, but it was clear that he wasn't going to get **** done here.
I didn't even think we'd be able to give MW away. And now we got a future 1st for him. Today is a good day.

I agree 110% with both you guys...I feel it was a no brainer...I liked Marcus, he just wasnt progressing like we thought, and he wasnt providing us with what we needed...its that simple now... so we get a shot at a 1st rounder...regardless of the stipulations, I'm still taking it...

Re: Marcus Williams Traded To Golden State
It's not that we are mad we traded him because he still have potential. It's not that we're made we got a 1st round pick with a boat load of protections. It's just that I felt we could have packaged him with another player to get a guy who could potentially help us over the next 2 seasons. Instead we got nothing.
Granted...this is the same thing 99% of us felt when we traded KMart. The 3 picks we got from Denver turned into Vince Carter.
Obviously management felt this was the best deal we could get and I'll support them for that. I actually do in my mind hope there is a end to the means. I don't plan on us ever using this pick and, in the end, get something of "value" to for Marcus. Time will tell on that part though just like it did in the Kmart deal.
and No, I'm not comparing this move to how huge the Kmart deal was to us. I'm just making the point of how miserable people were that we traded Kmart for 3 picks and a TE. We basically felt we got ripped off there...and in the end it turned into Vince. Obviously this one pick won't turn into a superstar, I'm just saying that we didn't see the end to the mean with trading him yet so there are similarities.

Rod and Kiki are doing a good job with this off-season. They still need to move one or two bigs. I cant see where they are going with the next move.
Truthfully, the way he looked at the summer league he would have been a better player for us this year.

Re: Marcus Williams Traded To Golden State
I'm one of few Nets fans that like Marcus and I'm upset that he was traded, but not because I thought he was good or anything. We are now very thin in the backcourt. Harris, VC, and Dooling are the only players who aren't terrible at the 1 & 2. If we kept Marcus, we would have much more depth there. We shouldn't of been trading our 1s & 2s, but our 4s & 5s. Our roster is still very unbalanced and that trade was unnessasary, if you like him or not.

Agreed, but you don't think with the stockpile of bigs we currently have, you don't feel we should've at least packaged Marcus and one or two bigs for something better?

Agreed Rich.
At first glance this trade is crap. I would rather do a mwill, swift and auger deal for a sg. But any ways i also agree with prelude that we aint gonna keep this pick. It will be interesting to see how this pick turns out ( or where it ends up)
Can Frank coach the kids?

When this guy turns into the next Steve Nash dont say I didnt tell you.
This trade is downright terrible it makes no sense to trade a guy that showed flashes of excellence that had 1 bad year after coming back from an injury, especially when he has just soo much talent.
Frank once again cost us a great player and its really sad to see our GM who was great in the past couple of years show more loyalty to his coach than to his players.
