We can't really get any of them per say. We have nothing of value to offer pretty much at all.

With the Lakers insistence on maintaining the payroll and unlikeliness that they trade Farmar, Odom has become our only asset.

Too bad the Lakers need guards and have a boatload of bigs themselves. NJ is probably a good trading partner right now. All are guaranteed.

OP you forgot Krstic. He's restricted but unless somebody offers him something he'll be there too. Now would be a good time for someone to throw an partial or full MLE at him - they probably won't match.

We have a boatload of bigs? Who the hell would those be?

Bynum, Gasol and then who? Odom who's stuck between SF and PF, Radmanovic who cannot play extended minutes at PF to save his life, Mihm who is done for most likely, and Mbenga?

There's no quality in that...

We have a MAJOR front court depth problem that will likely be exposed very soon as the season starts.

To be fair, all those players can be easily split up into 4 positions though (not actual depth chart, just sorting by position):

C - Boone, Lopez, Najera
PF - Williams, Swift, Yi, Anderson
SF - Simmons, Hayes
SG - Hassell

BTW, Swift and Anderson will get zero playing time anyway, so that pretty much eliminates them from the list.

Id do a luke and mihm for Stromile Swift. He would be nice in our second lineup blocking shots and banging with the second unit. He isnt the greatest but he can play in the post. He would be a lot better then mihm. MIhm has the offensive game but has been out for too long. Luke imo hasnt played anywhere close to his contract year.

So what if they have 10 forward or centers. At the end of the season, even we had 10 forwards/centers locked up in Bynum, Mihm, Turiaf, Odom, Radmanovic, Walton, Newble, Ariza, Walton and Mbenga.

5 guards to man the 1 and 2 is usually enough.

The way I see it the Nets can split those 9 forwards/centers (rate Hassell as a SG since he's 6-5 and usually plays guard) with 3 players on SF, PF and C so there isn't that big a log jam there.

Exactly.

The position distribution I put up above sorts everyone out pretty nicely. There isnt a log jam at any position really.

5 guards, 1 combo guy, 5 forwards, 3 centers is where its at

Lakers moved Butler because of the uneven make up of the 2005 SF Lakers
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

They moved Butler because Mihm was terrible in defense and Grant was done. We desperately needed someone to hold the C and give opponent bigs some trouble, while the deal made sense back then, they got the wrong guy imo. Tyson Chandler was on the market at around the same time IIRC and trading Butler for him would have been a perfect deal.

If the Lakers had traded Butler for Tyson Chandler they never would have ended up with Pau.
