Okur for Okafor

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Tue Jul 22, 2008 3:29 pm

Sometimes windows open up for a team to move boldly and make a move to change the course of their franchise in a positive direction. The Lakers did it last year with Gasol. Had they not moved quickly they wouldn't have competed for a championship last year.

I am willing to give up Okur and Brewer, or Korver, or Harpring, or Millsap (and Collins or Hart as need as cap filler). Any smart basketball analyst recognizes that although the Jazz are young and talented team, but fundamentally flawed. They need a lowpost defensive presence....Okafor is just that! I would even be willing to add a draft pick with conditions.

If we give up Brewer, we match CJ. If we give up Harpring, we match CJ. If we give up Korver, we match CJ. If we give up Milsap, we play AK more at the 4. At the end of the day, this is a deal that needs to be done because no matter what extra player needs to go to make this positive and easy for Charlotte to bite on, it is the only way we are going to get a championship.

Get it done KOC!

It would be a bold move. I think I would probably do it even though I am a huge Memo fan. Memo earns his money but cannot coexist with no defense Boozer. From todays news, Boozer seems to want to stay to play with Williams. I do think it would take Memo and Brewer.

Jazz not uaually bold enough to make this move. Jazz seem content on making the playoffs and not winning it all.

I really like the idea, but for it to go down, it would have to be something like Mehmet Okur who makes roughly about $9M/1+1 PO and either Matt Harpring at about $6M/2 or Kyle Korver (who I think we should keep and he steps into the role where Harpring was at backing up AK) at about $5M/3 or Ronnie Brewer (keep Brewer cause trading two starters for one doesn't look so good, plus if we are giving them Okur in the first place they shoould take a contract on like Harprings) at about $3M/3. The reason for this is because Emeka Okafor turned down Charlotte's offer of $12 MIL a year for like 5 years (and most likely he just turned it down cause he really doesn't want to play for Charlotte), so I think we up the annie a little a go in the range of $12.5 to $13.5 for a 5 or 6 year deal in a sign and trade.

My potential trade for Okafor would look like this:

Mehmet Okur and Matt Harpring

for

Emeka Okafor

I would hate to see Okur go but I do think it would work out for the best especially giving up Harpring as well.

No way we trade Harpring. I'd be down for it, as I think most of the board would but Sloan and Miller like him to much to trade him. Harpring will retire in a Jazz jersey.

No way I'd do this for Okur. He has improved every season and was a way more consistant shooter from long range than everyone other than D-Will. I just dont see Boozer and Okafor co-existing on the court on the offensive end anyways. What we gonna do have him stand at the top of the key and play 4 on 5 on the offensive end? I'd much rather keep Okur.

Malone never had any problem coexisting with Eaton, and I think Booz would be just fine playing with Okafor. I like Okur a lot, but if the Jazz are going to make a big commitment to Boozer, then they MUST get a big that can defend the paint. Last year, losing Okur would have been unthinkable, but with the addition of Korver and Deron and Andrei's ability to stretch the floor and hit the three as well, Okur is more expendable. plus, they could probably get him for something less than a max deal, which would greatly facilitate the Jazz's ability to make moves in the future.

Charlotte would have to be pretty desperate to take the risk that Okur opts out, but if Okafor wants out... this might just be the opportunity the Jazz need to make such a move.

Okur/Harp for Okafor @ $13/5 years... easy decision.

Watching Koufos and Big Fes in the RMR I say do it!I don't know who else to throw into this deal however i Think Booz and D-will are going to get better and better together, and getting someone who can play some defence will help the Jazz become better as a team!

We have a younger, healthier, and Cheaper Okafor. His names Paul Milsap.

Not quite, fivas....

Boozer and Okafor would get along just fine on offense. Plus it would give Booz a better excuse for not taking the ball to the rim.

Not interested. Combine my blinding love for Memo with my belief that Okafor's not really a Center, and there you have it. Good player, pretty fair deal, but I say 'no thanks' on this one.

Not interested.

We require Okur on the perimeter to open things up in the paint for Williams/Boozer pick and roll.

If we could get Okafor to sign a 4 year deal then I'd do it. I think Memo will bounce next year.

I feel the same way. I am a bit torn. If it happened, I would get over it down the road.

Okur is the least likely to bolt.

Can you explain your reasoning why Okur is least likely to bolt?

I could turn around and ask... Why is he most likely?

Who really knows other than the player and those close to him. There have been no rumors about him. All the worry seems to be around how much to pay Boozer, is Boozer going to bolt to Miami, do we trade Booz or Ak, and nothing really about Okur. He seems to really like it here, unlike with Ak and Boozer. We have changed our offense and style to fit him.

That is what I can think of right now off the top of my head... I will try to come up with more. I could be way off but that is how it goes.

Ahhh.........The cognitive process of supposition. In other words, you have nothing concrete to share. Incidently, I wouldn't consider Okur for Okafor either..........even if they threw in a bale of hay!

Isn't that what 90% of Realgm is... a bunch of BS and internet junkie/nerds?

Why would he think that Okur is the most likely to leave? Nothing suggests that is true, unless the poster has something new and concrete to share. I don't see why he would throw a claim out like that.
