Good move by Parcells and Co ... very impressed by their patience and the value they got. I expect that 2nd rounder to be a high one, just a hunch.

Keep in mind that the 2010 6th rounder can be used to add a veteran starter when the time comes. Every year a number of vets are traded for those types of picks, similar to how we got Jason Ferguson as our starting NT this year. And 2010 is the year we are targeting for contention, so the 2010 6th can be used to fill a need for us when it's most important.

People who aren't sold on this deal have to keep this is mind: Miami didn't trade JT by choice. He more or less demanded a trade. Not publicly like Chad Johnson, but thru back-channels and other actions like not showing up for mini-camps. So you can't criticize Parcells for pulling the trigger, and you have to believe this is the best offer he had on the table. If he could've gotten a proven player as well, he would have obviously. And if you don't like getting a 2nd rounder instead of a player, remember that we haven't used that pick yet obviously, so it could certainly be used on a proven player when the time comes if one is available. Also, it gives us $8 million in cap space now and next year to pursue that "proven" player or lock up our young guys. So the trade is ...

PHINS TRADE:
- Two years of a declining JT, who might've gotten us to 7-9 instead of 5-11, thereby worsening our draft position each year while still not going to playoffs

PHINS GET:
- 2009 2nd rounder (can be traded later for proven player)
- 2010 6th rounder (can be traded later to fill a need)
- $8 million in cap space (that's enough for two Justin Smiley type signings)

All things considered, great deal for a rebuilding team.

I agree, besides the 2nd rounder which IMO is good value for a 34 year old unhappy player, the best part of the deal is getting his HUGE contract off our books. According to Armando Salguero we should be around $21 millions under cap as of right now. That is almost what we started the offseason with. Next season we should be able to make 1 or 2 big signings to fill HUGE needs. Maybe steal a starting QB or a star WR, DE, LB or CB.

Oh, and we got a 6th rounder in 2010 as well!

Everybody wins IMO!

I would of liked a player for player trade better...

JT for Ocho Cinco...
JT for a mento to Henne (Favre)
Something like that

nfl trades rarely work like that

also, Favre was a horrible mentor to Aaron Rodgers, what makes you think he'd want to go to a one win team and hold the hand of another QB
