2008 'Skins Training Camp and Preseason Thread

Post#1 » by Rafael122 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 7:28 pm

Training Camp started today.

Phillip Daniels is done for the year after tearing his ACL. Redskins are now talking with Miami to see if they can trade for Jason Taylor. Word is it would only take a 2nd round pick.

Would you guys do it?

Wow this board is in shambles. I would give a 2nd for Jason Taylor although I would like to squeek out a 3rd or 4th only for him.

Yeah, most of the threads we started are gone I think.

Alex Buzbee is also done for the year. He ruptured his Achilles tendon.

Fred Smoot sprained his left ankle.

And to think, Zorn's training camp was suppose to be easier than Gibbs' and look at the injuries.

Smoot is expected to be back soon.

Sucks about Daniels and Buzbee but both are replaceable. Anything other than a 1st round pick would be good for Jason Taylor. Guy is still a baller and having him with Andre Carter would rival one of the best DE combos in the league

Well its done, Washington traded a 2009 2nd and a 2010 6th for Jason Taylor.

The thought of Taylor and Carter coming from both ends, with Griffin and Montgomery pressuring up the middle makes me want to drool.

Yah I'm okay with the trade since the 6th isn't that big of deal. The 2009 pick will be pretty late hopefully so almost a 3rd.

Carter had 11 sacks with no defensive line help.

Our defense looks too sick. Better than 2004? Could be....

Not so sure...still hoping for some improvements in thin secondary (Rogers, though pushing hard, prolly won't be ready until mid-season, and we already know Smootie is an injury waiting to happen).

LB could use some depth also. Better than '04? That may be a bit of a stretch. Hope that you're right.

I like this deal a lot for 2 reasons first of all he will be playing past this season so he won't be retiring like it was rumored. He also is the best DE we have had since Charles Mann was here even though Andre Carter is becoming a pretty good one too..

Now if Erasmus James can ever get healthy, all of a sudden our D-line suddenly looks pretty darn good!

They will be working out Eric Hicks later this week.

I still think they need to add an offensive linemen, just a spot starter or something. But overall, I think we have a very solid team.

Now we need the Vinny to bring in some LBs to provide depth...

Same for DBs!

We don't need a OL. In fact, I think we should let Fab and Wade go and have all the young bucks as backups. Heyer, Rinehardt, Brown, and Crummey will all stick and will replace everyone but Samuels in 2 years.

Anyone actually make it to training camp on here. The preseason is for veterans to stay healthy and rookies to make the roster. I'm sort of underwhelmed by are rookies inability to stay healthy already. I'm scared that we will have James Thrash as are 3rd WR again.

Davis seems to be impressing people though, and Thrash as a 3rd WR isn't a big deal. Chances are he won't get the ball much anyway.

I think think big battle is going to be between Anthony Mix and Billy McMullen for the final WR spot. Thrash will be third, but it won't last. You can't at this point hand over the third slot to Kelly or Thomas considering neither have played or practiced much. One of them will have it by mid-season.

The game against the Jags was the ultimate throw away game.

Anyone nervous?

I am leaning towards a 5-11, 6-10 season. I may lower it though.

Not a skins fan but I've lived in DC for awhile, will Billy McMullen make the squad? That's my last name & my Father keeps asking me if he'll make the team because he wants a jersey. My pops is a little old for jerseys but whatever. So does Billy have a shot?
