Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
I'm glad for Williams, because he needs to get a starting oppurtunity to have the best chance of showing what kind of player he'll be. Really hasn't had a sustained thing going yet. Wasn't going to get that with the Nets, and I don't think is a back-up, yet. May be. But the Warriors needed somebody who at least has a background on the PG position and decent ability, and Williams does.
Good for the Nets to get an extra R1 pick
Solid deal for both teams

Good signing for Golden State because they had no real point guard going into the season. Definitely not a Baron Davis but certainly someone that can potentially be a regular starter in the league.
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

Excellent deal for the Warriors...
Great deal for them. This kid can play if you get him under Don Nelson and just let him play...I have no idea why it did not work in New Jersey for him.
Good young player who should have stayed at UConn for 3 or 4 years rather then languish like he did the last two, but that is the same thing I can say about half the league.
I like his game in the open court and up-tempo style of play out there in Oakland with Randolph and Wright coming off the bench with him.
Your tongues will be hanging out trying to keep up with the Warriors...
They got some great fantasy players who will put up some stats for you every night. Perhaps not wins. No one on that team can win like Baron Davis could...

I don't think Marcus got much opportunity. Lawrence Frank is a horrible coach.
Our rookies run on such a thin line, they lose confidence once they are pulled from making a mistake.

Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
Well i personally think his bad defense was the main reason why he didn't work out here . We never had the front court or the defenders in general to hide his defensive problems .
He also never really was comfortable as a backup and tried way too much to impress when he came off the bench by hoisting up stupid shots or trieng hard passes insteand of easy ones .
If he starts in Golden State he will do fine in my estimation but as a backup he'll be horrible.

Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
I don't think Frank is a horrible coach but, like most good NBA coaches, he keeps young guys on a short leash because they are prone to fits of pride and peak, playing outside of the scope of the offense and getting wrapped up in emotional responses and such. Too, Williams was playing behind Kidd and then Harris (who is an established NBA talent), so what space was there in the rotation for Williams, really?
Williams is almost completely useless as a scorer under the arc, though he shot very well from 3 this past season (over 38% on 2.7 3PA/g), which is promising for his time in Golden State. If he sheds some weight and works on his mid-range game, then the Warriors will probably receive him well. Having Harrington, Jackson, Maggette and Ellis about will leave him with fairly minimal scoring responsibilities, though he'll have the unenviable task of distributing shots between four guys who are potential 20 ppg scorers.
It could be a solid trade for the Warriors and it is in principle a very good idea to add a point guard in the wake of Davis' departure. One wonders what kind of protections there are on that pick, because it's probably going to be a lottery pick if it happens this upcoming season... not because the Warriors are bad but because the rest of the West is so good. As their roster stands presently, the Warriors are behind Dallas, the Lakers, New Orleans, Phoenix, San Antonio and Utah and they've also got to worry about the Blazers, Kings, Clippers and Houston if T-Mac and Yao are healthy. They're fighting for the last two spots in the WC playoffs with a host of very talented teams that are (at least in some cases) a lot more balanced than they are.
So the protection on the pick will be important; I assume it's lotto-protected in '09, top-5 protected in '10 and top-3 protected in '11 or something like that. Does anyone have the details?

Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
Ah...
Wow, basically a free former lotto pick. That makes this a much nicer move for the Warriors.
The pick is lottery protected for 2011 – so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-to-11. It’s protected 1-to-10 for 2013. If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets s\get second rounders in 2013 and 2015.

Oops, my bad, I thought he was like 11th. Maybe that was his projected slot.

He slipped due to his pathetic body fat % for a professional basketball player esp a point guard. His quickness and jumping ability were that of a 2nd round prospect and not befitting of a potential lotto pick.

Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
Yeah, I remember him slipping because of his combine results and such. Still, we'll see how things go in Golden State.
Baron Davis used to be a poorly conditionied fat bastard with talent and he's turned out OK.

Davis while in UCLA was a absolute physical freak for a point guard. He might add some lbs every other season when he is gimpy but Williams isn't even on the same planet when it comes to quickness, strength, and jumping ability when compared to Davis.

Re: Marcus Williams traded to GS!
Not what I meant; I meant that when Baron hit the league, he ballooned like an SOB and had really big problems with conditioning and health. He was able to work around them.
I'm not comparing them directly, only saying that conditioning problems can be overcome; Baron is in great shape these days. Marcus will never be an athletic freak but he can still become a fine NBA starter.
