This situation is exactly like Deng-Chicago, Gordon-Chicago, Childress-Atlanta, J. Smith-Atlanta, Iguodala-Philly, and every other RFA from that draft class looking to get paid. There is no one team out there that can pay any of these guys except their own team. Chicago and Atlanta have to sign two of them. And S&T's between them don't work, either (to my knowledge).

This came from Rick Bonnell, the Bobcats beat writer, who is usually wrong or takes things way to far. I think Okafor was asked a question about if he didn't get an offer from Charlotte and he said he would "move on", yet it is all blown out of proportion.

Does anyone else think that its a mistake by Memphis not to try to use some of their cap room this year? There seems to be a lot of really good players without contracts that they could make a run at. I am not sure who they think they will be able to sign next year.

They could sign Okafor this year, and still have around 15 million next year to grab a player. I would think a core of Okafor, Gay, Mayo and Conley could be quite intriguing, especially with the potential to land another big time free agent next year.

Why would Memphis sign FA??

Signing a FA would

1. Make the team payroll baloon and decrease value of franchise
2. Could possibly win games and hurt the franchise
3. Would cause the team to recieve fewer ping- pong balls and hurt its chance of rebuilding.

I dont see a point in spending cap space when your trying to tank and rebuild. The object is to get 4 good lottery picks and then spend cap space on the FA who can start in the 5th spot.

Maybe its charlottes lineup, maybe not. But after watching him get dominated by andre blatche I don't think I would give up alot for him on the wizards squad. Maybe charlotte has the proper perspective that he is over rated. Maybe he's not over rated. He's not on a Brand, D howard level for me. Infact I don't consider him really elite. Maybe charlotte wasn't interested in inflating his value.

Honestly I don't think he was worth the $60 mil extension they offered him anyway. He's not an especially talented offensive player, and not an elite defensive one either.
