Arenas Still talking/compares himself to Lebron!!

Post#1 » by Da_James_Gang » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:47 pm

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-3 ... James.html

"It's kind of funny when you think about it," he said, of the playoff disappointments. "Everybody says we can't get past Cleveland. Cleveland beat us one year, that was three years ago. The other years they've just been beating up on some hurt dogs. We just want to get our fair shot when we're healthy at the right time, because two years we showed what kind of team we are....We were rolling, we were top five in the league, and that's what kind of team we are when we're healthy. When we're healthy that's the kind of team we are, we're a top five team in the league."

Later, he explained what he had told his teammates after the season.

"You guys played the whole season without me and you guys made it to the playoffs," he said. "Tell Cleveland to play without LeBron. I don't think they won a game last year."

Its pretty sad imo, usually i might get pumped and say i hope we play them again in the playoffs. But i'm over them already.....

Sucks that a guy so talented has to be such a moron...

"Everyone says we can't get past Cleveland." Uh, I think there's a good reason they do...

Seeing that the Wizards can have just as good of a record without Arenas -- one could say that his impact isn't as great as he wants to believe.

I think his point is very interesting. Without Arenas the Wiz are a playoff team and yet, they aren't much better with him. Without LeBron the Cavs didn't win a game and are clearly a lottery team. So while I don't think he was really comparing himself to LeBron. The comparison is in fact inarguable. LeBrons impact is worlds greater than that of Arenas.

I'm also tired of people somehow believing that injuries aren't part of the game. They are and you have to play through them.

To be fair, you have to consider the fact that Caron among others, missed significant time as well.
So this whole "the Wiz had just as good a record without Gil as with him" thing is getting old.

PS:The title of this thread is somewhat misleading.

Of course injuries are a part of the game but you don't expect (at least I don't) to lose the best player, second-best player and several back-ups for significant portions of the season in multiple years.

If you believe in karma things have to get better for the Wiz health-wise...cause they sure can't any worse.

Knock on wood.

Too be fair, the whole thing about having just as good a record without Gil is TRUE -- just check the standings for the last three years. Everyone has injuries and situations that are not advantageous like the CAVs having the contract situations with Varejao and Pavs which lead to an injury plagued season for the both of them -- Injuries are part of the equation. The CAVs fought through issues too last season
and many injuries and still dispatched this so called deep Wizard's team.

Yes you are right. Every team loses thier top two players for significant amounts of the season in multiple years. Right.

If you want to look at the bottomline and say that the record is the same with or without Gil, fine.
But I think that deep down you know that there were mitigating circumstances..even if you choose not to admit it.

I would have too if Gil WAS actually comparing himself as a player to LeBron.
One guy has only been to the second round once while the other has led his team to the finals.

Enough said.

Deep down I know Gil is full of crap and it makes me laugh too -- discounting other teams mitigating circumstances (like the CAVs to boost the Wizards) is amusing too.

Who's discounting the Cav's injuries? You guys had a ton of them and contract situations. As did we.

Ultimately, you've beat us 3 years in a row. So it is what it is.

And its up to the Wiz to change that(or not not to).

How is it misleading, when you click the link, the title of the articles says..."arenas compares self to lebron James"....

Also i dont know why arenas would say he doesnt want to create distractions, but obviously saying what he said in this article brings more attention to himself. I always say how talented this guy is but he just needs to cut out the bs and just play.

i must admit lebron is better than arenas. the stats dont lie. but you all have to admit that if you take the stars off each team the wizards are about 395 times better than the cavs. it doesnt seem to me that arenas is saying he's better, it just seems like hes trying to pump up his team by saying their the better team.

^Don't you think 395 times better is kind of crazy since none of the Wizards play defense which is what wins championships. There is a reason that the Wizards have had a problem getting out of the first round of the playoffs and one the main ones is defense which isn't as flashy as the offense you are trying to make a comparison with.

Doubt it, the Cavs would win 1,000 times out of 1,000 times without the stars. You know how I know? Because I just made that statistic up, and basing a team's performance on hypothetical situations and pretending you know the result is the best judge of whom is better. What I get from it is Gilbert inadvertently pointing out that the Wizards are as good or better without him playing, he should look into another team I think.
