Charlie Rosen: Dwight's "overall defense is weak"

Post#1 » by Cigamodnalro » Wed Jul 23, 2008 4:09 am

"Verdict: Unsurpassed power matched with easily surpassed defense."

This guy is the biggest Magic hater in the history of Magic haters. He consistently bashes the team, year in and year out.

so i guess the fact that he was voted, by ppl a lot more knowledgeable than charles rosen, to the nba all defensive 2nd team this year, means nothing. wow that guy is a hater. its not like dwight is a top 5 shotblocker, the best rebounder in the nba, and anchors a team that was 5th in defensive rating.

What? As soon as I saw "Fox Sports" I stopped paying attention. What did I miss?

Nothing?

Ive been coming to this website for about four years now and I just finally signed up.
And I would visit the forums atleast twice a day and everytime ive read something
written by Charlie Rosen he always has to say something negative about dwight
or the team and imo he knows nothing about basketball and defense.Sorry if im
just rambling on.

Either Charlie Rosen has a beef with the Magic existing in Orlando and not elsewhere, such as Vegas, that I don't know about (which is possible, since I don't follow Charlie Rosen, because I don't care what he says), or you're confusing him with Harris Rosen, the local A-Hole.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

The actual quote.

Dwight Howard's task is to rebound. Period. Sure, he'll block an occasional shot and execute one of his power drop-steps when good pass-work makes opponents pay for overloading their zones. But his overall defense is weak and his free-throw shooting is unpredictable. Howard's ability to clean the glass will be a critical component in the running game.

Meh, that's not really hating.

LOL.... wow.... There has been times where Dwight change Games defensively..... oh well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but i certainly disagree with Mr. Rosen, and this has been more than once....

how many times at the end of a game have we seen Dwight make the defensive play to save the day? I can remember quite a few. Dwight sometimes does get a little lazy on defense, but his defense is still very good, especially when he's focused and wanting to play defense at the end of a game. He's one of the best defenders in the league in crunch time.

"Sure, he'll block an occasional shot "

LOL @ occasional. Yes, the fact that he blocks over 2 shots per game and that he was the 3rd player with most blocks during the playoffs despite leaving in the second round is a good starting point to say that "sure, he'll block an occasional shot". lol

We should have taken Okafor.

Huh?

Um, maybe you're thinking of Harris Rosen?

In any case, it's not the worst thing he's written about us, and in fairness he was pretty blase about everyone on the roster except for Kobe. Big surprise.

Rosen has too much space to fill.

Gotta blab......

Rosen is clearly talking garbage. I'm not gonna say that Dwight defends like David Robinson in his prime at the moment, because he doesn't. Fundamentally he still has some weaknesses, and a tendency to cheat on D when going after blocks or rebounds. But that is the same as near enough any young player, especially ones like Dwight Howard and Josh Smith, who have the unparalleled athleticism to recover when they get out of position (some of the time).

Maybe Rosen is just ignoring that Dwight surrenders a PER of only 13.3 against his opponents - compare that to Tim Duncan, who gives up 15.3, Marcus Camby who gives up 16.2. Both of those guys were selected to the first team All-Defensive ahead of Dwight (82games.com)

Ok, so we know Dwight sucks from the foul line Charlie, but um, your such a damn idiot. Dwight averaged 2 plus blocks last season, and now he only gets a lucky drop step too? We need not read this clown's articles.

What we all hoped with the Milicic experiment is that Howard could get weak side help so he could more focus on his man. Today, Battie is a better team defender than Howard.

But, Howard is a much better than average starting-C defender. The kid is 22. In five years, he will get better.

Yeah his defense is just simply awful. Mean teams just run lay up drills past him; thats exactly how the Raptors beat us in the 1st round.

Oops I said Raptors, now their Magic board alarms are going off, hi cb4.
