The one who benefits the most now.......

Post#1 » by td00 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 1:55 pm

J-Rich will get his chance now. I don't know what he has. The Summer League doesn't compare.
Now J-Rich was good enough to be the MVP of the D-League all-star game.
That other summer league name that would fit here as well, and probably one requires a guaranteed contract: Dahntay Jones.

This can't be another reactive move on the part of the Hawks.

Welcome to the Hawks Rick Sund! Your 2nd move is a disaster! I sure didn't like the first one in bringing back Woody, so that's debateable.

Are we bringing West back? I always liked his effort and hustle.

In theory this will force Woodson to utilize more of his bench, but I'll believe when I see it. I've gotten used to Woodson using adversity as an excuse rather than trying to make the most of any situation.

I actually think that this means we are going to have to play the starters even more. One of the biggest complaints about Woodson is that he would play Joe 40 plus minutes in games where we were leading(the game at New York)or down(the game vs Indiana when we were blown out)by 20 points. I don't think he has any less incentive to do that w/o Childress.

I hope that this is a blessing and give us achance to sign vet players. First to come to mind would be
Maurice Evans or Michael Finley. More risky would be Ricky Davis or Bonzi Wells. cheaper Kareem Rush. Maybe we could get 2 for what (or even a bit over what) we wanted offer to Chil. 2 deals would be easier to manage and move if needed.
to go back on the initial comment, I am more hoping that we sign Hunter, then eventually rich rather than mario. You got to love the guy but I just don't see him making it (especially with the little time that he is getting with Woody).

Not Finley, he's over the hill. He'd make the Lo Wright signing a couple years ago look genius.

this is fine. and good for Chil. hopefully now the front office can get started
on resigning Smoove now, since the situation has just been simplified.

Who's going to be the motor off the bench for us? I don't think we have one at this point that will replace Josh Childress.

Take Evans off the list. He just signed a 3y/6.4 M with Golden State. About 2M a year, that s....
We could still have brought back JSmoothe and a big (brown??) or another SG/SF + Hunter

Mario West!! Even though he didn't develop a 3 pt shot this summer judging by the summer league action, I say give the kid some more minutes.

The one who benefits the most now is Josh Smith.

Before Chilz-to-Greece, the ASG had him in a bind. Now, Smoove holds a HUGE hammer.

Of course, he has to cut off his nose (go to Europe) to wield that hammer but he has a hammer.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Josh Smith got more leverage just because the team REALLY doesn't want him coming out and publicly saying that he wants out. THe team needs good news in the press, not that they lost Childress for nothing and Smith is screaming for a S&T.

All I see in all this and that has been backed up by many here, is that many players will not come here for market price. We still will have to overpay to bring players here.
My whole argument all along is that no one is coming here that they can't compete for a starting job here because both Woody and Sund have stated 2 things:

1) We don't need any more youth. So scratch the draft and probably anyone on the summer league roster that shows promise.
2) Both Woody and Sund have publicly expressed that they were looking to fill in the roster slots 9-12 and we were set at the front 8. That is the most ridiculous statement they could have made. It tells me no one significant is coming here.

Chills has just shook up this roster like Smoove could possibly now.

Just hope it doesn't turn to be too much simplified and they don't decide to go max with Smith.

Let's hope so... I can't stand another game watching Marvin always go out at the 7:00 minute mark. He need to use all the tools on the bench... especially in situation that warrants it (blowouts). We can't really see who's a diamond in the rough if they're underutilized (Diaw). With Childress gone, hopefully Acie Law and Mario/J-Rich will pick up the slack and they'll find someone to replace Zaza off the bench (Elson? Brown?)
