Celtics GM/ Red Style

Post#1 » by Celtics_85 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:31 pm

Lets have a little fun here and to the older guys that remember Red as a GM, what would he do with this team right now if he were still the GM. Now I remember Red always looking to make this team better and to keep this team competitive, and to do it he was always looking to make trades to get this done. Lets have fun and try and figure out how he would go about making this team better and what trades he would try to make to get it done.

If I were Red I would be looking at a team that might want to shed a few players that are looking for that cap room in 2010. Right now I'm looking at the Bobcats and a potential problem with Okafor. Okafor wants more money than he is worth and it could become a problem with the Bobcats and him. I would try to ease into this with an option to the Bobcats to get them even further under the cap and have a few pieces that may help them down the line. This is a trade i would offer to the Bobcats;

Re-sined Okafor @ 5 yr.-50 million
Wallace
Nazi Mohamaad
Matt Carroll

for

Ray
Perk
Scal
one of Giddens/Walker

I think Okafor might take a deal from us like that knowing he is going to a title contending team. Nazi is that veteran backup Center we need, Wallace is a great 6th man with TA starting, and Carrol is our one year shooter off the bench. With this trade our defense just got even better and we got a little younger without losing out on potetial of defending our title.

Remember this is for fun, and if you were Red, what would you do?

Meh, that's not that great and Okafor would never sign for that much money. Last year they said he turned down like 75 mil over 5 years. If that trade were to go down it would be without Carroll or Nazi.

Since we're doing crazy trades I say:

Ray + youth for Jason Richardson

Richardson is sick nasty, especially against us.

In reality I doubt Red would make any moves if he were GM of this team, but since this is intended to simply be a fun, free-for-all type of thread, here are some ideas. I made no effort to make these trades completely balanced or workable under the cap, so just assume there is filler involved in each to equal things out and make the salaries match.

Idea Set #1:Trades that would be great if everything worked out, but would be incredibly risky
-Artest for Ray
-Iverson for Ray + Rondo

Idea Set #2:Trades that would mortgage the future, but make us better in '08-'09
-'Sheed for Perk
-Miller for Rondo

Idea Set #3Trades that would make us younger, but worse off next year
-(Clippers) Thornton + Gordon + future unprotected 1st + '09 protected 1st for Pierce
-Bynum + future unprotected 1st + '09 protected 1st for KG
