Artest to Detroit a possibility?

Post#1 » by miller31time » Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:23 am

Artest-To-Detroit Buzz Growing

The Pistons are considering a move to acquire Ron Artest.

A source close to the Pistons confirmed that the team is pondering a trade for Artest. But a source close to the Kings says the Pistons have not yet called Sacramento.

The Pistons wouldn't be able to reach the Kings' chief decision-maker in the coming days. Geoff Petrie is going on vacation.

If this longshot of a rumor turns out to be true and the Kings and Pistons agree to an Artest trade, how would the Pistons faithful feel about it?

As we all know, Ron doesn't have the best reputation in the Motor City. Would Pistons fans welcome this trade (assuming it's something along the lines of Artest for Prince) or hate it no matter what value their getting, simply because of their distaste for Artest?

My love of winning overrides any opinion I have of Artest. So as long as he improves our team I'm happy.

Personally, I never see it happening.

Detroits disdain of Artest started before the brawl when he broke Rips nose in the playoffs the year before.

Dumars is smarter than the average GM. He knows teams are about more than mere talent. They are about chemistry and cohesiveness. Ron Artest does not buy into that vision with the Pistons.

It's a very loooooooooooooooooooooong shot. But I never say never.

Agreed, could swallow my disdain for him if we made it to the finals. Hell who am I kidding I'd be cheering for him by the end. :-?

It would be hilarious if that trade happened.

Aside from that, do they even need him? They already have Prince at his position and he offers similar things.

The rumor I've heard involves Prince for Artest

I would love to see this trade happen. It would be funny to see if DET fans cheer or boo him when he scores a basket.

I think in place of Tay hed be the perfect fit for that team. fits the meanstreak defensive mindset and he has the ability to create on his own which few of those guys do. they broke down bad offensively a few times in the ecf this past year and hed be a big help there.

They should give away cups to the fans for Artest's first game with Detroit.

I'm pushing hard for this deal. Artest is just the kind of player the team needs. Not afraid to play and you know no one is gonna make Pierce/LBJ work harder for their points. If a Prince for Artest goes down i'd be ok with keeping Sheed.

Reconciliation trade? Great news for the league and of forgiving and forgetting. Wouldn't bet it happens though... Too many personalities to consider and too many factors playing in but who knows...

Billups/Rip/Artest/'Sheed is formidable.

I just can't see this happening. Even if Joe D were down for a Prince/Artest swap, I could never see Bill Davidson (the team owner) signing off on a deal that brings Ron here. He would never want the guy who fought his fans (no matter how drunk or stupid that select few may have been) playing for his team.

I can't see this happening either

And, to a lesser degree, with a Prince/Artest swap... specifically for the Kings.

I'd certainly watch and root for Detroit some more, though... not only because I am a Ron Artest guy, but just because of what's involved in multiple ways.

1) I don't think it has any chance of happening. Our owner is very vindictive (see Rick Carlisle, Isiah Thomas and Larry Brown). Plus Dumars is smarter than this.

2) IF it did happen I'd probably boycott the Pistons for a period of time. That is to say I'd be so upset I'd attempt to stay away...but ultimately be pulled back because I've been a die hard Pistons fan all my life. But it'd be very hard for me and would definitely leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I would welcome it after being owned by Lebron and Pierce the last 2 years. Artest is a much better matchup against those big physical SF's we've got to deal with late in the playoffs.

Worst case scenario, it's a 1 year rental, and we'd have Sheed and Artest as expiring contracts.

I'm guessing the only way Bill Davidson would allow the trade to go down is if it was a no-brainer. He's a big "character" guy, so it would take something big to bend his rules.

Okay... we'll see :)

Prince is also right around Artest's age range (but less years in the league), and has 3 years with 9-10+ million left on the deal. One of Salmons/Garcia would be on the move, in the case Prince would be a main-stay.
