JR Smith added to US Select Team

This should be great experience for him. He'll actually get some of the coaching he needs. Good to see him get some recognition for his play. At the end of the year he was looking like he could end up being a big star in this league.
Hope no greek teams see film of him a the end of last year. He could get a huge contract over there with his potential.

heh some euroleague teams are better than some NBA teams.
It's a good thing for JR, but not for Nuggets, if he does well he will for sure draw attention to other teams to sign him. (edit typo)

There's no stopping him on the open court... possibly more dangerous than his three pt stroke. Great experience for him

Glad to see some good news for once during this offseason. You hope an honor like this only helps his maturation.

euroleague, please. no one cares about that. childress went because he wasnt gonna get paid that much here and that could eventually be a major problem for the nba but everyone knows JR loves attention too much to be playing for some loser european team that no one cares about. Basketball in europe is like soccer in the US, no one gives a ****.

They still sell out in Europe, I Think JR could be huge over there seeing how talented and entertaining of a player he is... if nobody is offering him a legit contract, why not take it? Childress received a huge contract over there, imagine the type of deal JR could get.

ignorant US ****... Sure, there is no ESPN, but there are place (like Greece and Spain) where attendance is higher than, you remember Philly like half year ago? Excited to have 10000 people at the stadium. But I have no problem with that. So more I enjoy every time US all star team is beaten by "euroleague scrubs"

yea, the euroleague is so sick bro. thats why you are here posting on an NBA FORUM, following NBA TEAMS, and NBA PLAYERS. go watch that meaningless basketball if you want to, i dont care about it. i never ever will. never. and its not like im gaining any respect for any euroleague as they sign mediocre to average level players to bigger contracts than the deserve which will just result in a financial issue for the NBA. wow, im so impressed.

thats why the us team hasnt done anything impressive over the last few years. euroleague sucks but it seems the european style of basketball beats the nba style when its matched up one on one. funny! how old are you btw? 14?

before you attempt to sling out weak insults maybe you should read the previous post. i dont care if the euroleague has a few good teams, i just have no interest in watching them. and the fact that they are signing guys role players to big contracts isnt making me more interested. you euroleague fanboys make the stupidest comments. its like saying that a Man U fan better start paying attention and caring about the MLS because our allstar team just beat West Ham. Be realistic. Americans are not ever going set aside time to watch some greek team play well executed basketball, especially with the only former NBA player on their team was some role player for the 8th seeded team in the east.

Re: JR Smith added to US Select Team
We are talking about the NBA which indeed may be the greatest stage but is no longer the only stage. European teams have doubled their profits in 2 years and are coming on comparable to US teams( which also includes the fact that the dollar is weakening and the euro is thriving).
Europeans have started becoming picked more in the drafts and have not come over if picked in the 2nd rd. We believe that teams are "letting" these players mature overseas but the fact is their contracts are becoming too big to buyout then sign to a rookie contract. Look at the 2nd rders who are going overseas to play because they will make as much money as if they were picked in the 1st rd and those are Americans. This year for the first time they are outbidding for free agents so NBA teams dont have their usual leverage. They took a High School player who chose to play professional rather than go to school.
In a league where the general consensus is "ME,ME,ME", it is just a matter of time where someone has the Latrell Spreewell syndrome and has to "feed their family" and goes to Europe because they were able to outbid. They dont have an existant salary cap so they can as easily be in the running to outbid some teams in 2010.
Let me break it to you in one simple scenario: Why is David Stern really trying to expand into Europe? ( I believe he said 10 teams in 10 years) Is it because if he doesnt he will lose talent? He has to try and get that talent and hope that they can get a merger going somehow or interleague play like NFL or MLB. If not Euro as fast as it is growing right now(Like the NBA in the 80s) could grow past the NBA and become the dominate league. We would like to say no because we believe America is the center of the world and we dont have to worry but it's all we know and that is the truth.
