Spencer Hawes or Jason Thompson in 5 years?

Post#1 » by norcal07 » Thu Jul 24, 2008 4:07 pm

Going into the future, obviously we will have Kevin Martin (unless he's traded like Peja was) and after 2 straight years of drafting big men in the first round of the Draft got me to thinking; in 5 years who will be better Spencer Hawes or Jason Thompson? Although Hawes has been in the league for a year he is still younger than newly drafted Jason Thompson. But with previous injury problems (the knee) his progression could be slowed to a halt if he get injured again, again, and again(Like C-Webb). And Jason Thompson, although being 7 ft he still needs to work on his low post game. And playing for a college that plays in relatively unknown conference (the Metro Atlantic Conference yes I did look this one up) where the competition is usually alittle weaker, the level skill that he will have to adjust to will keep rising which will hurt him. I think that if Thompson could develop his skills more he will be better in 5 years than Spencer Hawes.

I like both of their games and I think they will play well together. Both will develop into 20-10 guys and as long as the KINGS have both in 5 yrs I realy don't care who is better. Hawes already has a better post-up game then JT and he's 2 yrs younger. JT on the other hand will develop into a better defensive player and rebounder then Hawes. Both can shoot from the outside, dribble and handle the ball, and can take their man inside or outside which will create match up problems for other teams BIGS. Both Hawes and JT were once guards so they can dribble and handle the ball very well for BIGS. I realy like these two guys in the future and along side Martin the KINGS will be a real force in about 3 yrs. Unfortunately, KINGS fans will just have to endure a few years of losing and wait for these two guys to mature before the KINGS can return to their winning ways of the past.

Personally think Thompson will be better. Nothing against Hawes who i think will be an above-average center, but Thompson is more athletic and i think has higher potential because of that, his speed is amazing

I hope both will be superb young players, possibly all-stars. I will take hawes over thompson though, because hawes has a better overall offensive arsenal, which will hopefully develop into something special

It's a good thing Thompson didn't enter the draft last year. I wonder who Petrie would have chosen last year between the two? I think both players are going to be real special in a couple of years. Together they are are both Divac/C-Webb like material.

Now if we can only get the rest of the KINGS players to play like our old team and get Reggie to coach more like Adelman will get in the play-offs sooner :D

Hawes = Divac
Thompson = C-Webb
Artest/ ?? = Peja
Beno = Bibby
Martin = Christy

Williams = Polard
Salmons = Hedo
Douby = Berry
Garcia = B-Jax
Moore = Clarke
Singletary = ??

Singletary = Mateen Cleaves!

Personally, I think Thompson is gonna be better, Hawes may have more skills and talent, but Thompson has the desire that I don't really see in Hawes

I don't care who's better on an individual level. I just hope they can make EACH OTHER BETTER playing side by side. It's like saying Chris Webber was better than Vlade, even though Vlade was probably the single most important component for that team. Fact was they were better together than apart. Hopefully that can be the case here.

Artest is more like Christie, and Martin is like Peja (scoring off screens and all)

Petrie has been rebuilding this team in the mold of the old one... but with a few different things to it. We're more athletic than we have ever been.

Both so unique and skilled. We have barely seen Jason play and we think he'll be better than spence already? Man showed he belongs on the floor towards the end of the season. I saved the game against the spurs on Dvr, when hawes matched against Duncan, and he's going to a potential all-star center. (good centers are HARD to come by). Young centers that show all-star in the west- Oden, Hawes, Bynum.
