The Detroit Shock have signed Nancy Lieberman to a 7-day contract according to an ESPN report. The 50-year-old Lieberman will break her own record for being the oldest player in the WNBA.

Lieberman, a Hall of Famer since 1999 and currently an ESPN broadcaster, was 39-years-old when she played with Phoenix during the league's first year in 1997.

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed basketball Hall of Famer, former Detroit Shock head coach and current ESPN broadcaster Nancy Lieberman to a seven-day contract.

Is this some kind of joke, I know no one cares about the wnba, but can someone help me figure this out, is she like the MJ of womens bball or something?

I don't know what's more revealing if she has success, how good she is or how bad the level of play is in the wnba that a 50 year old can still play...

I think this is a result from the brawl..Detroit has 5 players suspended, with the harshest suspension lasting 4 games. They signed this lady to fill in for games for a week IMO..

Detroit only had 7 players left after Donna Orender handed out suspensions. In the WNBA, you have to have at list 8 active players to play a game, it's mandatory.

Bill Laimbeer signed her to a 7-day contract. He gets publicity and an 8th player and she extends her record for oldest woman to play in a WNBA game.
