Dear Suns fans,

How's Boris Diaw at 9 Million a season working out for you?

Take care,

Evil Dallas (I don't speak for all Hawks fans)

P.S. Don't count on us losing Josh Smith until you see him take the qualifying offer.

As far as Luke Jackson goes, trust me, we do not want him. I watched him play with Toronto a couple years ago, and a few times this last year with Miami. He sucks. I cannot emphasize that enough. We do not want him.

Does anyone think JR Smith fits the culture of this franchise, which at this points seems to be guys who have their act together off the court? Hasn't JR Smith had more than a couple of issues to be concerned about?
He seems to just need to be patient and wait for AI to leave town. A better opportunity with Denver IMO.

And movingaz, don't forget to say hi to Rondo and Kurt Thomas when they come to town. Another couple of good moves by your brass.

Chris "The Birdman" Andersen will return to the Denver Nuggets next season. He agreed to sign a one-year contract with the team, multiple sources said Wednesday. Andersen, who resides in Denver, will make a league minimum $998,000 next season. Andersen, a forward-center, played sparingly last season for New Orleans after returning from a two-year league suspension for substance abuse. He was reinstated in March.

For: $998,000

I had expressed interest in in going after Birdman for the minimum. I think he could still block a solid 1.5 to 2. If not, who cares, paying the minimum is worth the risk.

Free agent options I would like to consider:
SG: Apart from the already comented Snyder, Evans and Rush I would consider Devin Brown and Gordan Giricek. Wells would be a more expensive option but the best option by far, however I doubt he sign with us
SF: I would strongly consider Walter Hermann, he has all the tools to succeed even 3 pt Shooting. Other option I would consider is Gelabale.

If we sign Hermann and Evans for let's say 6M$ both, would not be better than signing Childress for 7M$, I would not necessary say that loosing Childres was bad as eventually we could build a deeper bench with less money

Scratch Dahntay Jones off the list as he signs with Denver.

How's Ben Gordon doing lately? Is his salary demand too high for the Hawks to make an offer without having to renounce/trade Chillz' rights?

Among guards/swing players, RFAs I'd like:
Gordon
Deng
Delonte (if he doesn't run off to Russia)
JR Smith
Iguodala

RFAs I'd settle for:
Dorrell Wright
Snyder
CJ Miles

UFAs I'd like:
Ricky Buckets (unless he heads for Greece too)
Mo Evans (give him the same offer the W's gave him, plus one dollar)

UFAs I could live with:
Derek Anderson
Jarvis
Finley
Gelabale
Devean
Devin Brown
Antoine Wright
Eddie Jones
Bonzi
Q Ross
K Rush
Ira

UFAs ASG will probably wind up settling for right around Halloween (all part of Da Grand Plan, of course):
Giricek
Piatkowski
Awvee
Shannon Brown
Jacobsen
Nichols

Gordon, Deng, and Igoudala are out of our price range. If we renounce both Childress and Josh Smith I think we'd have somewhere around 7M under the cap, which enough for 5yr/40M offer as a starting salary which they wouldn't sign and if they did it would be gleefully matched.

I said a thousand times before that I would prefer a trade now to standing pat, and I still stand by that, but the idea of utilizing free agency more is growing on me just a little. If I couldn't pull off a trade to get the team a third star for JJ and Smoove, I might do something like this:

1. Resign Smoove of course
2. Offer the full MLE to J.R. Smith and watch it get matched.
3. Sign Kwame for 2 years for part of the MLE to give us some size. I'm thinking we could get him for 3.5 at the most. Maybe cheaper.
4. Offer Bonzi Wells, West, Richardson, and Michael Ruffin 1-2 year deals at the league minimum. If Bonzi won't sign for the minimum, I would use some of what's left in the MLE to get him. (MLE would not be used in conjuction with minimum salary) EDIT: I didn't say why I would add these players. Kwame of course brings size, but Wells and Ruffin bring toughness. Something that would hopefully set a standard for the team and would hopefully rub off on Kwame.
5. Play the free agent market in 09 when Bibby and Zaza come off the books and the team salary would be at about 46 mil (with 6 players under contract, assuming Smoove is at $12 mil, which is a liberal estimate). See below for free agent options:

For 09, you can add Raymond Felton (RFA), Sean May (RFA), Steven Hunter (ETO), Danny Granger (RFA), Hakim Warrick (RFA), Andrew Bogut (RFA), Charlie Vilaneuva (RFA), Desmond Mason (UFA), Reshad McCants (RFA), David Lee (RFA), Hedo Turkaglu (ETO), Jermaine O'Neal (UFA), Paul Milspa (RFA), Deron Williams (RFA).

This would allow us one more year to evaluate Marv and Law (and I stress one year), before we ultimately make a major move to determine who to bring in to convince JJ we are a winning team he wants to resign with the following year (two years from now). The problem though, is that alot of those guys are RFA's that their teams are going to match for, and there isn't alot of star power in that crowd that isn't starting to age a bit. Example: A.I., Kidd, Wallace, etc., are getting old and wouldn't be with us for long. Also, I see some of the older guys who don't have a ring signing with a title contender rather than with a bubble team for more money. In the end I would still pursue a significant trade to secure another big name now, rather than waiting around. This is sort of my plan B though, which I wanted to present here since we are talking about free agency.

Jannero Pargo is still out there. He could help out quite a bit with our depth issue at the 1 and 2 and also give us a shooter off the bench. He's looking for a three-year deal though, I don't know how ASG feel about that.

Scratch Gomes and Vujacic from the list of RFAs still available. Doubtful we could have landed either as they re-up with their current teams. Got to say one thing about the Childress deal, it got a lot of things moving around the league on the RFA front.

I'm sure it opened up some eyes due to Josh being American. It's always been an option for Euro players, but now that a known American signed overseas, it has really started a signing trend and now we just need it to hit home with Josh Smith.
