Is Sean Williams available?
As a Wolves fan, I've been a fan of Sean Williams for a long time, dating back to his days at Boston College. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if he was available. After resigning Sebastian Telfair, the Wolves biggest need is an athletic big man who can play post defense, rebound and block shots.
Assets:
Rashad McCants - a very talented scoring guard who averaged 15 ppg and 40% 3-point shooting last year
Rodney Carney - athletic high-flying swingman
Ryan Gomes - good all-around SF/PF (12 ppg/6rpg last year), great in the locker room, would have to be sign-and-trade
TPE for Gerald Green trade
Four first-round picks next year

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
Yes sean williams is available but I don't think we'll ever move him unless you take one or more of the following:
Trenton Hassell
Stromile Swift
KVH's contract (with the $250K it takes to buy him out)
I personally love Ryan Gomes. It's a guy who can play both the 3 and 4 and is still young and improving every year. problem is I really don't know what kind of player we're looking for right now and would we be willing to lock up a young guy like him long term if we could get him on the cheap.
I don't think you're gonna get Williams without a deal like Hassell/KVH/Sean for solid young guy/expiring vet who isn't completely worthless. We can make something work in this case:
Hassell
KVH
Sean
for
Booth
Madsen
Gomes
It's nothing to write home about but in a deal like that how much would Gomes S&T have to be? I think it'd be too small.
With all of this said, I think both teams could find better deals for their boys.

In a deal where Gomes would be involved in a S&T, of course the Wolves would have to take back one of your contracts. The Wolves are in the running for a big free agent splash in the 2009 offseason, just like every other team. The only player I see the Wolves taking back in that sort of deal is Swift, since his salary doesn't extend past 2009. Swift also makes around the same salary that Gomes would most likely sign for.

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
I've read Gomes linked to the Cavs in a possibe S&T for a 2 year contract for the full MLE. If we could get him a contract like that and give you Swift, then I'd be down like a clown. Plus, if I were the wolves, I'd rather have Swift as an expiring on my team instead of Eric Snow or Damon Jones. Any truth to that rumor though? It was either on the front of RealGM or in the ESPN rumors section a few days ago.

Na we need Sean to cover those smaller quicker power forwards. I hope we keep him his upside is to great to just get rid of.Swift should go he has the expiring contract.

U guys wouldnt want rashad mccants? He would be perfect as the 6th man scorer off the bench. Gives u 15 poinst in 27 minutes. Thats not bad for someone who i condisder could be 17+ scorer if given more time. I would do williams + swift (or hassel cause they used to love him) for mccants + madsen + fillers
Lopez / Boone / Swift
Yi / boone / Swift
Simmons /hayes/ CDR
Carter / Mccants / CDR
Harris / dooling / FA
Madsen got hustle game but there is no place for him.

Ron ron on how commited he is to the team.

How about Banks for Hassell and Cook plus a 2nd pick for Williams?Preludepunk27 wrote:Yes sean williams is available but I don't think we'll ever move him unless you take one or more of the following:

There's no way in hell Marcus Banks and his contract running through 2011 ( ? ) is accepted by Rod Thorn. ZERO chance.

^^^^ Agreed. We don't want Marcus Banks...and I wouldn't trade Cook/2nd for Williams. If Crittenton or Lowry's name came up for Williams, I'd think about it...but would probably try to give up Boone instead there too.

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
My guess is that Memphis would take Williams/Boone for Crittendon and whatever else in some sort of package. The Grizzlies have their pointguards in Conley and Lowry, and have a combo guard in Mayo. But they sure could use a defensive power forward(the likes of Arthur, Warrick, Walker, and Millicic aren't going to strike fear in opposing players hearts).

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
No way in hell they'd get both. One or the other for Crittenton if the had their heart set on one of them. Only way I'd even think about both would be if is was a Crittenton/Warrick. Even then I probably wouldn't do it for the fact that leaves us with a Lopez/Anderson/Yi/Najera/Stro frontcourt.
Regardless, I never thought the Grizz and Nets were good trade partners unless it was like Williams or Boone for Warrick or Crittenton straight up. Lol watch we trade the pick we got in the Marcus Williams deal to Memphis for Crittenton so Memphis can get closer to the money they need to make an offer to Josh Smith. Won't happen but it's fun to giggle every once in a while.

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
Sorry if the way I posted it confused you. I meant either Williams or Boone, definitely not both.
The Josh Smith angle is an interesting one. It's been mentioned on the Grizzlies board, but since he's a restricted free agent the chances this year are slim since the Hawks would surely match just about any offer because they wouldn't want to lose both Smith and Childress. We discussed because the Grizzlies can at least talk to him they can tell him that if he accepts a qualifying offer and becomes unrestricted next summer Memphis will then keep both a spot and the cash open for a big payday. I don't believe it's tampering since Smith is a free agent and anyone can discuss contracts with him.

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
^^^ I think Josh Smithwould be sick playing with Rudy Gay and Conley and OJ Mayo. That would be a solid little young core and all. Remember though, Josh is growing increasingly annoyed with that Hawks though so he could either demand a sign & trade or he could just tell them not to match it. I mean I agree it'd be easier to just sign him as an unrestricted, but that's a gamble on his part to stay healthy and still be able to get a payday and it's a gamble for you because he may like ATL again or someone else with cap room (won't Minny have a boat load?) can swoop in.
If I were the grizzlies and I really wanted Smith...I'd get him now. Jason Collins/Hakeem Warrick/Filler for Smith. Gives ATL a good young player who wouldn't have a spot once smith comes, also an expiring contract. With Collins expiring and Bibby's coming off the books, they can do damage next offseason and you guys can giggle about having the 2nd best young core in the west (2nd to Portland)

McCants is actually one of the young SGs I would love to have right now (great outside shooter with a scorers mentality... he has faults but so does everyone) but he would need to be given a costly extension at the end of this season, while Sean Williams will be on his rookie contract through through the 10-11 season. That is a big deal for the Nets.

Crittenton for Sean Williams straight up makes sense for both teams and I think both would go for it.

Re: Is Sean Williams available?
Honestly, I'd be fine with Crit for Sean. Gives us a PG that if we feel Devin can't lead us down the road, we have a potential one in waiting.
We have 3 picks over the next 2 years (and possibly 5 over the next 3 if GSW makes the playoffs in 2011)and I honestly feel we're only gonna get ONE player from those. I think we'll package them one draft and take the best PF avaible so I really don't think losing Williams would be that bad if we got a young guy with upside like Crit does.
