Trade ID #4738017

Rockets Aquire:
Lamar Odom
Rights to Sun Yue

Lakers Aquire:
Shane Battier
Rafer Alston

Why Rockets do this-
They get a versatile true third option in Lamar Odom, while also aquiring Sun Yue who would have chemistry playing alongside Yao Ming.

Why Lakers do this-
They cut a little off their cap space while also aquiring a grade A defender and decent perimeter threat in Battier, while also acknowledging their need at the PG spot with Rafer.

We wouldn't trade Odom for Battier straight up let alone do it while also throwing in our only PG in the process. No thanks.

Yes Battier is tradable but there are very few players in the NBA he wuld be traded for. If you could get Ron Artest for Battier and Novak do that or if you could get Tayshaun Prince back then those trades make sense because you still would get a lock down defender as well as a player who is a consistent scorer, which is where Battier struggles at times. Other than that hes not going anywhere since he is the one who gives TMac a break on defense by shutting down opposing teams best players every nite.

I wouldn't say he shuts them down. More like chases them around and harasses them into tougher shots while making them expend more energy.

Against Utah in a series,Shane's "flaws" are exaggerated. If we could see him against Kobe,Carmelo,Ginobli in a series his virtues would stand out.

Yeah Utah is a bad match up for us regarding Battier on the defensive end. Utah's main threats lie in Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, and Battier isn't suited to guard either. His defensive efforts are pretty much wasted on Kirilenko, because Kirilenko isn't much of an offensive threat.

I'd pay large sums of money to see Deron Williams being guarded by Jimmy the Tulip.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor
