Bonzi

Post#1 » by Gek » Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:41 am

He'd be a great offensive spark (streaky if I remember him from Portland, didn't watch him much in N.O. or Houston?), and has enough mass to bang with the likes of Pierce and Posey (although he's only 6'5") I'm not sure how his defense is though, but seems like a solid pick up if we can get him for a barnes esque deal

I've been saying get Bonzi for 3 years now and have got mixed responce. But he would be a great fit. He can score and plays tough D. He isn't a great D player but he frustraites players enough to make them play below their capabilty. In my eyes I say give him the MLE even if we trade for Ron Artest. We need to get tougher and Boston proved that. Bynum coming back and getting a player like Bonzi or Artest or possibly both we definately get tougher. Mihm is now healthy and so is Bynum so we are set with Centers and PF's. We need tougher wing players. Ariza healthy helps put that just leaves Kobe as the other one. We need one or possibly 2 more tough wings.

Fisher/Farmar/Sasha
Kobe/Ariza
Artest Or Odom/Bonzi/Luke
Gasol/Vlad/Kenny Thomas?
Bynum/Mihm/DJ

I like the line up with Odom because he can create mismatches with his length at the 3 but seeing a 4th quarter line up of Kobe, Artest, Bonzi, Gasol, Bynum just seems scary.

Lol Matt Barnes type deal, atleast half the teams out there would jump on that then.

He's atleast going to get atleast partial MLE from one team or another. Personally, I'd say no to this guy.

Matt Barnes is not tough like Bonzi. Bonzi is tough. You don't think we need to be tougher on the wings. Frankly I like Ariza and he plays good D but he needs to improve on his shooting and needs to hit the weight room this offseason.

Bonzi has recently been on the Hornets (Contenders) and Houston (decent playoff team), and he still hasn't done squat for those teams even though he was given a fair amount of minutes. Unlike on those teams, he will not have the same minutes here, therefore, his impact will decrease even more.

You say you rather give him the MLE with all the SF's we have? Dear god, we just lost a backup big man.

Ariza played great before the injury and he played great with his limited minutes in the finals. He picks his spots well, whether its slashing or spotting up, and plays decent defense. Most importly, he's not a chucker like Bonzi.

In conclusion, MLE for a vet PG or decent big man. Odom for Marion/Artest/Battier only for me.

If the team's honest to goodness goal is to save money, retain the roster, while tinker ever so slightly there's only one approach I can think of.

- Re-sign Kwame and get him to lose weight back to his 2005 form (260 lbs).
- Re-sign Vujajic and add a veteran like a Micahel Finley for cheap, or sign a veteran like Ricky Davis if Sasha leaves.
- Add Crawford to the roster.
- Add Mitchell to the roster.

And go with it from there.

Sasha has not been re-signed. Kobe can play SG full time. Lamar should be at PF. Vlad should be at PF.

I've been sayin Bonzi for three years. I always got mixed reactions about him.

Im still positive on this dude.

This brother gotta body. He's that post up swingman playa. Ya digg?!! And on defense, he can stick with the best of him. He's a no nonsense player. He reminds me of Sprewell's game which is why I really like him. I love my ex-Knicks and Sprewell was the man..

With Sasha appearing as if he may bolt, it's either this guy or Ricky Davis. Personally I prefer Ricky based on his height and three point shot.

I'm with y'all pdub15 and Squirrel Boy, I've been puttin this on notice since the day teams started trippin on Bonzi. At this point Bonzi will be willing to just be on an NBA squad.

Another option would be Mo Evans. He's not asking for too too much. He almost signed for 2m a year. I'd sign him for 2.5m a year.

Bonzi would have been a 100% yes a few years back but i think his best days are behind him. I'm not sure what you expect to get out of Chris Mihm??????? He's one that I will be happy to see when his numbers come off the books Fo Real!!!

Yeah but Mo & Ariza are the same type of players. With Bonzi he brings solid offense & good "D" even @ 6'5" he has a very good post game to go along with his inside out

Mo has hit .366% for threes on his career. Those two are far apart.

Bonzi's best days may be behind him but last I checked we're not picking through Luol Deng and Brandon Roy here.
